Hi, I was dabbling around the idea of making rustic style vintage cabinets and came up with a few ideas. The cabinet might detract the eye from a less perfect faceplate and have an old vintage look too. Unlike something you have to lemon polish a rustic cabinet gets better looking with more abuse.
These Heathkit preamps are as old as me 59. I got some barnboard from Smiling Hill Farm, Westbrook Maine. The gray wood for trim was from Richard Holts old rotting lobster traps I dug out of his yard. They have been aged in the waters of Casco Bay, right around Portland. I took some pictures a couple years ago on the back of my old Ford Ranger. I made a base for the W5 amp and one for the FM-3 if your interested.
Sometimes when people show their man cave stereos they look like something you might see in a hospital. It looks like you might be requested to take off your shoes and wear a hairnet.
If you look at the old hi-fi mags from the mid 50's to early 60's you would see built into the wall was popular and a girl and martini too. What I'm saying is its more fun to integrate your system in a room where you can enjoy yourself and not have to worry so much about your rig and have fun with music......Mark K

I always thought those were good sounding preamps.
