I have a Pioneer tube integrated amp and a Lafayette "Made in Japan" receiver. I think it is actually a Trio (Kenwood). I had the Lafayette running for quite a while but now it needs new filter caps. I don't remember any PIOs, but it has been a long time since I have had the top off of either, so I may be remembering wrong. Thanks for the tip!
The interesting thing about these pieces is that the amp seems to be exactly the same design, even though they are from different companies. Even the transformers appear to be the same.
If I recall correctly, the infamous Joe Rosen thought that these Japanese amps ran the tubes to hard.

Those gray caps in them are oil caps. Most people change them out because when they leak DC,tubes will run hot because they pass DC to the tube grids.I haven't seen the Japanese receivers run hot once they working properly. No hotter than any other tubed receiver.

Hi Michael,
I think by "run hot", he meant that they went trough tubes too quickly.

Hi, I think the rat nest picture was the poster child for getting circuit boards into use, even though a lot of vacuum tube guys want point to point wiring....Mark K.
Boards are cleaner, but most of the boards back then were not the best quality.
