I been noticing over the last few years some vintage equipment for sale is becoming more scarce and prices going up. Eico is an example, used be dozens for sale at any given time. Another is the VM PP 6AQ5 based amplifiers. I do not see those for sale at all. Also, those non-mainstream name plate stereo SE 6BQ5 amps with 12AX7 & EZ81.

Steophile's review of the California Audio Show starts with a pair of $200K speakers....
but you can get a S'phile class A of 2002 for 2% of that if you go vintage.

It is for those of pre-teen years.
Absolutely! I have been ebaying since 1999 and in my estimation prices for vintage gear have doubled in the last 3 years. 5 years ago I used to find vintage gear all the time at garage and estate sales; that gig has essentially dried up. I feel fortunate to find a "quality" black plastic component these days.
I am so glad I got the amps and speakers that I did several years ago. I see prices for the same thing in terrible shape for 3Xs the price. And thats being easy on the guys selling the stuff. Yep the word is out.
Many of us "lurk" on the bay. You can watch 200 items on your My Ebay pages. So, you can see the results; plus, if you write them down, or commit to memory, you can realize the prices are not coming down on many items. Remember that you cannot see where the buyer is from anymore; sadly. While we are bidding against the world, the world is buying.
Despite the worldwide recession, there will always be rich pockets out there. Also, there are collectors that simply are willing to spend whatever is necessary to win their desired items. USA buyers are not usually paying what some of the worldwide buyers are willing to part with. Stateside, we are not valuing music as much as many other countries. Lastly, while we are watching certain items, so are the buyers around the world. The savvy collectors are aware of the trends and which "sleepers" of items are "waking up"...
what a great amp!
I'm sitting in front of my 6060 right now! Not only killer sound BUT absolutely gorgeous styling ...reminds me of 60's Italy or a 50's dashboard...same thing w/ a Heathkit tuna I have... what style!
I actually think that some vintage has gotten cheaper if you're into restoration. Scott 299's going for $300 or so in various states of minor disrepair isn't too bad when you think that what comes out sounds like a $3,000 rig! Just MY 2c
Cheers All... Audio Asylum Rules!
I saw a $200.00 soundesign stereo on ebay, I almost died of laughter!
