I have an uncle who swears by his KR 7600, but has a 9600 mega receiver with apparently problematic sound after it was repaired.
The other day, going through some stuff dismantled from my sibling's apt., I found a Kenwood KR 2600 in near mint condition, a cheap acquisition I found to replace an old Fisher SS receiver which had been used as a tuner.
Do you know much about this piece and how it works? Sound? It's in storage at my late father's home.
Follow Ups:
I had one a few years back that I picked up at a thrift store. My Mother used it for awhile, until she heard my Sherwood S-7200 on her set up. I wound up giving it to my Uncle who at the time had a modern 90s Marantz receiver that took a nasty surge and lost all it's back lighting on it's LCD display. He like the Kenwood better as he could see the dial and he liked the sound of it.
I always though it was in the neighborhood of 20 WPC. It did have a nice sound and good kick. :-)
I just picked up a KR 2600 on ebay for 20 bucks. It says 80 watts on the back and I don't wear glasses!! It really does say 80 watts on an original Kenwood lable . But it'd crap compared to the mighty Marantz 2230 in the TV room. Just my 2 cents........
man only 15 watts! i have one of these hooked up to a pair of floorspeakers and they pound, and very crisp sound. i cannot believe that its only 15 watts per channel, lol and the amount of bass it puts out id very good too.
the tunner is the best tuner i have used. it has a gauge so you can dial the station in perfect.
great radio!
which Kenwood or Pioneer or Yamaha or Marantz have you compared this to?
Just curious. It would be an excellent base for an office system. I bought it to replace a defunct SS Fisher receiver, which was being utilized as a am/fm/fm stereo tuner.
I have one I picked up on Ebay a couple of years ago and it's great. For such a low powered receiver, it sounds much more powerful than one would think and is pretty much rock solid. If you're into vinyl, it also has a pretty decent phono stage as well. I wouldn't trade mine for anything.
I'm using it right now to drive a pair of the original Advents and use it daily.
I have not heard that particular model but the vintage Kenwood receivers I have owned are pretty solid with very good tuners. My guess would be that model, in good condition, would be a keeper.
Just a small receiver from 76 with 15 wpc. Should tune well as Kenwood makes good tuners. Not English but the numbers can be read easily enough.
and I can easily discern a lot of info from the pic.
