This is in a CD player and looks like a voltage regulator. Any ideas? If it is a regulator can I change it out with a 7805? It appears to be putting out 6V I wonder if this supposed to be 5V with a good regulator.
thanks,
Jeff

Tweekeng is probably correct. Why do you feel you need to replace this? What player is it in.
This is in an old Yamaha CDX-480. Everything in it is as cheap as possible. I got it out of closet and just started fooling around with old parts I had from other projects. Shockingly it stared sounding pretty good. Thats a very relative "pretty good". Still sounds a little smeared. I replaced all the diodes and thought some better voltage regulation would help. I don't see a voltage regulator and thought well maybe thats what the 1913 chip was.
It's not a big deal but I just wanted to see how far I could take this cheap old CD player. I guess I have too much time on my hands. :)

I am guessing it is a 2SD1913 NPN transistor. The 2 means two junctions and the S means silicon, it is very common to leave this suffix off of transistor markings as it is pretty much implied.
A, B, C, and D are frequency response characteristics.
Always try putting a "2S" in front of three legged devices that start with the letters A, B, C, or D.
So chances are no you can not just replace it with a 7805.
