Any comments on replacing a DACT Stepped attenuator (CT2) with a TKD (2500 series) continuous one?
I know there is talk about stepped vs. continuous ones here and elsewhere, but I just wanted to ask specifically about this.
Areas of interest are:
Resolution, especially in the bass.
Sonics in general.
Channel level matching (at 40db+ attenuation). (I note that at this level of attenuation, TKD specifies a match within 2.5db, which sounds like a lot to me, especially with headphones. There is no balance control and only the single volume control for both channels.)I really would love a finer level of volume adjustment if possible but I'm afraid of degrading the sonics and channel balance, which are excellent with the DACT.
Thanks in advance for any comments.

Why would you replace a discrete, stepped attenuator with .1% 25ppm SMT resistors with a carbon or plastic track of varying thickness?
You're going to lose resolution and channel balance to name two downsides and when it wears out or gets noisy/dirty good luck.
What you're thinking about is a step backwards in my view.
Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.
The TKD are excellent volume controls. A good one will outperform your DACT.
However the last ones I bought (over a year ago) were noisy, and had poor channel balance toward the lower end. It was fine 9:00 and up.
If you have room try one of these:

I've been in this business almost 20 years. I know counterfeit, and I only use reputable dealers.
