to note that the power supplies mean more to sound than the chipsets employed.

What I have found is this, All stages of the system want to be the only thing connected to the power supply. You do this by using large filter caps at every stage or power pin of IC's. They love it.bobwire
Same experience with power supplies. In my case I was forced to replace a failed PS capacitor in an amplifier and ended up with a slightly larger value. Sound was significantly improved over new, and at all volumes, not just loud. (Or maybe the improvement came from the duct tape holding the larger cans in place??)
With digital audio, clocks are also important. With LP, the turntable rules. And of course, the power supply to the clocks and the TT.
Without both energy and time, how can there be music?

Besides doing the power supplies you can make a big diff by making better ground. Look at ground all around the clock. If there are jumpers make them fat wires or solder another one (insulated) to the pads (on the trace side)to double up the wires. I did this in one unit to lower Jitter! Also, if your unit has disk caps either side of the crystal clock replace them with surface caps of the same value. If your unit has a clock circuit improve the power and ground to it to lower jitter. Good Luck, bobwire
