Mikey,After reading your post I wanted to pass along my opinion on NOS vs Belton sockets.
IMHO the 9 pin chassis mount Beltons are superior in every way to the NOS. When I had NOS Cinch 9 pins to put in the Citations (for instance) I had very little trouble with them, but after a few years they definitely required maintenance. The Beltons are amazing! I use them in one of my tube burn in racks and they have gone 5 years or more of frequent tube changes and they still grip the tubes like crazy.
I have no experience with the Belton octals because the mounting hole needed is so large, larger than almost any gear uses. They'd be fine for new builds, but to replace old sockets in existing/vintage gear could be a problem. I suspect they'd be durable and reliable - but I can't vouch for it like I can with the 9 pin sockets.
So again - NOS is NOT always better. Everyone needs to keep an open mind!

Hi Jim
The 9 pin definitely give an extremely tight contact. Your comment is spot on.
I also use the Belton 8 pin. They have the tuning fork type contact. Extremely tight contact as well. With the 8 pins I retention whenever I remove the tubes. Some may not like the tuning fork style style for connectivity, but I find it this design gives the option to really tighten them up. Especially given the pin thickness variances I come across with octal tubes.
Cheers!

Well, you and I already discovered that years ago in the case of tubes..The Genelex reissues from KT66 to the KT88 to the KT77,all equal to or best the originals, especially the latter two.
When you say maintenance, you mean cleaning and tightening, correct?

Yes - cleaning and maintenance!
Where made? Not cheap, but new?
Will bear that in mind.
All of mine are 9-pins anyway, ;-)!

Hi Tim,
They are made in South Korea, and they actually ARE very modestly priced. What I meant was that NOS stuff is now getting pricey; sorry if I wasn't too clear. Most tube vendors (including me - and I use them in Citation amps BTW) carry the Beltons now since they are such a fine product AND a fine value.
I give them a VERY high recommendation!
