Just wondering what people think of his custom tube amplifiers? I asked to see if he could build a class A push pull tube amp between 30-60 watts with excellent punchy dynamics, and he said yes he could. And the price he quoted seems reasonable. Thing is how do his amps stack up against other high end gear. I was thinking of getting a Threshold amp, or if not, a class A Rita 880 amp. I know Threshold is some good stuff. Would his amps be comparable?
Follow Ups:
I purchased a 30-40 wpc pp amp from Jim which was excellent. All of his amps accept virtually every type of power tube and all are self biasing. I now happen to own a pair of Eico HF-20 monos that he rebuilt with all new caps, resistors, and a different circuit. (which happens to be the same circuit he utilizes in all his amps) The layering, depth and 3d imaging I'm now hearing is something I've yet to experience with any amp.
Here's a good reveiw for one of Jim's amps by Lynn Olson from Positive Feedback Online

I asked for him to see if he can build a Class A tube amp with really good punchy dynamics. He said he can. So I wonder if he's made this amp before?
The name "Jim Nichols" sounds more like the name of a golfer, doesn't it?
I haven't heard a Threshold or Rita. But I do have two amps built by Jim Nichols and am very happy with both. I'm listening to one of the amps right now -- a push-pull-parallel 6L6/EL34 amp pushing about 75 watts/channel. I believe this amp usually sells for $1250 or thereabouts, plus shipping.
