This is an invitation for trolls, but:
what is the best (psh-pull/single ended) model (not brand) of tube?
Follow Ups:
SE KT66 6 watts of bliss!
Real amps GLOW in the dark!
I WON!! GM70 driven by 6F6 is the best sounding tube, and that´s final!
Now, which is the best sounding capacitor??

For push pull output, either the Ei KT90 or Genelex KT66 greyglass, or RCA 6L6 blackplate, or Tung Sol 6550 ...... shit! do I only get one vote?
but now that I am in a long-term affair with the Lamm ML2, perhaps the 6C33C?

Ok I'll throw a vote at 845s as pedestrian as my taste might be love that midbass tone.

I haven't tried this yet, but intend to. 26 and 46 are my all-time favourite tubes and I want them in the amplification system, right now with 300b outputs. But with the price of 300b tubes and since my system stays on most of the time I'm looking for another output stage that doesn't fry money, and read good reports of using just the output stage of the Hypex UcD 180 bypassing the input stage on the board. There's a thread on DIY Audio about "hybrid hypex" showing exactly how to do this.
Needs a SE to PP interstage - I'm looking at LL1689 which will do 4.5:1+1. Input impedance of the Hypex final stage is 1.8K. The 4P1L may be a 46 substitute in starved filament to lessen microphonics.

yes I agree but the 46 is one nice tube, I wish I had known about it years ago.
Single 6550 SE with UL OPT is hard to beat.
Why smoke psycho plants when you can breathe the girls aftersmoke tangy pungent stuff...maybe most pungent green stuff I have ever smelled in the room below me here in my hotel room...
Anyway...for me the best driver is a treasure of a direct heated pentode i won't name because ...there are not enough....so how them tomatoes?
Anymoreway...for output I think 45 except not in my system try EML mesh 2A3...probably the" best" tube ever made by human beings....how do like those pumbkins??
Anyfurtheraway ....the "best" output tube for the value is clearly the lowly EL86, because it does give 2A3 power in triode, and it simply SlAAAMMMS the bass as well as having a Great midrange, and great tops...
so tomatoes? pumpkins...or rutatuabagas for you???? plus no HMMMMMMM
good music always...

PP EL37
Just for fun I'll throw out a rare odd ball, the 6337 triode. Curves like a 2A3, with 50 ohm plates and good power output.
Likely the 45 overall in either SE or PP. I settled on SE 2A3s though.
ZZZzzzzz..... you want an argument !
Reality tv not cutting for you anymore, Audiogon working fine, no lawns to mow, b!y@tchez to hoe, charlie to blow... ????
I'll bite, the tube voiced best to sound best to YOU in your amp and system.
I've heard puny flat 45's,
slamming tight 300B's,
turgid slow 2A3's
& dynamite 845's
and vice-versa
...and that's just talking of only the more pedestrian of tubes, well almost...
Tim De Paravicini for example has designed commercial amps with paralleled 12ax7's or EL84's and others with EL509's & 833's which challenge conventional sonic preconceptions of what sounds like what, tubes or sand or DHT or not.
To pursue this discourse further is futile until you have SMOKED A POWERFUL PSYCHOTROPIC PLANT and discovered yourself listening, in another room:

... and unobtanium.
The French distributor of Sun Audio used these tubes in a special edition of the stereo amp (basically, the SV-2A3) that was painted red.
I never heard it ... but those who did ....
.
you can't vote for the best sounding anything unless you have actually heard it
DISQUALIFIED !
,
we were on substances at the time, as well as confused about the time, as well confused about the tube at the time, but now we know it was an 813...
and if it were driven DC by a 47, it would be good...or try a GM70 driven by a 47 ....now there is a tube I never had time to hear....a GM70, and dully qualified for the dis, because dis I never heard or ever had time to drive to Russia to hear...ok?
yes
