I agree wholeheartedly about the hytrons being as good sonically as the rca..It seems Rca made many of their tubes but it seems that many of the Hytrons I have had quality issues and they are NOS tubes..I have a pair of 6L6g tubes NOS NIB and while both sounded great for a time, after about 6 months one developed grid leakage and the other a heater to cathode short..I believe they are the same tube as many RCA and tungsols but quality control wasnt as good as it was at RCA and thats the differences we are seeing and its reflecting in the price. Its just a different grade of tube even tho its the same..The Hytron tubes sold for 30% less on average when new and this is from a vintage book I was reading on tubes.
Follow Ups:
"It seems Rca made many of their tubes"Actually, no, they didn't, Hytron and Raytheon had a mutual relationship.
And RCA didn't make ANY 5692 - the red base 5692 was made by General Electric under contract to RCA.
"I believe they are the same tube as many RCA and tungsols but quality control wasnt as good as it was at RCA "
Well, if they are the same as RCA and RCA made them, why would the QC be different? You mean RCA had different QC on the line for Hytrons than for their own? That makes zero sense. RCA made tubes en masse with no branding anfd branded them after to fill orders on hand. They would have had no ability to alter their QC.
By the way, although neither the RCA (GE) or Hytron 5692 are particularly good sounding 6SN7's, the Hytron is better, it has stronger bass and slightly less rolled off highs.

I remmeber back in the mid 70s when I was fixing tvs..Channel master made 25xp22 crts..They were labled maverick which was the one year warranty and the Monarch which was the two year warranty and then there was the optivue plus which was the 5year warranty.
Now channel master said they are the same tube and same content and what they did was test and grade the tubes off the same off the same line and the best testing ones were the 5 year and next best was the two year and the cheap one was the one year..They also sold to tubes to admiral which was the two year version for their production and replacement tubes..I know they used to this with receiving tubes also and thats why you may get a tube thats not as good even tho its made by a major manufacturer because they always had the grading system.
Look at the genelex kt88..Some are called gold lion and some are called gold monarch and some are just genelex..That was a grading system for quality also.

The 5692 red base I have says westinghouse so your probably right..I know the 6l6g was made by rca for hytron and I know that was suprising being RCA was tied to the hip of nbc and cbs was hytron.
