Greatly appreciate recommendation of source for single core hookup wire, possibly OFC, for PS in power amp and preamp projects. I guess 18 to 16 gauge would work but welcome any suggestins. Most available through the sponsors here seem to be of stranded type.

How about single CAT5 strand? Stripped perhaps?
What would be the benefits of CAT5? I guess it may come in different gauge.
I wouldn't use it for high voltage. It is not rated for such usuage although some have indeed used it for B+. It is a good economical choice for signal wiring. Make sure to buy the plenum rated stuff and check specs to be sure you are getting a teflon insulation.
It looks like Michael Percy has the right kind of product/price combination. Yet are there other sources for OFC bare wire?
Hello.
There are lots of solid wire choices from Michael Percy. I like the Vampire 'Magnet wire' in 20 gauge myself. Good and cheap. You do have to scrape the insulation off though unless you have a 800F soldering iron tip.
But I resort to stranded Cardas 22.5g in the critical locations.

I bought some of this wire a month or so ago and used it on both a step up transformer project and for wiring a pair of Spicas I was refurbing. Usually solid core wire is a snooze, but I kept thinking to myself this is an exceptional product. His wire is teflon insulated copper, very strong, doesn't break easily, solid core, cryo'ed, easy to strip and highly recommended. Also Chris is one of the nicest internet vendors I've ever dealt with.
I am using old lengths of Audioquest speaker cable, both the 4 (thick)& 12 (thinner) core, These are solid core LCOFC, I strip off all insulation, and resleve with thin clear PTFE tubeing ( a Hamfest find ) and finish the ends with little bits of shrinkwrap ,Looks Fantastic and cost me next to nothing,Just an idea, John.
Is PTFE tubing any better than the original Audioquest insulation to justify the trouble of stripping then re-insulate?
I am stripping and slipping on this very thin transparent ptfe tube because it looks great, even if I'm the only one who will ever see it, sorry for a non tech reasoning. John
that dielectric absorbtion of many of the common insulations such as PVC are detrimental to sound quality. Basically what happens is that the insulation itself is storing a tiny amount of energy and then returning it a short time later. It is claimed by some that this leads to an audible smearing of the musical information. The prop. head forum would probably be the best place to inquire if you desire more info. Personally I would consider it for caps and perhaps long runs of wires in certain situations but I consider it a non-factor for the short (ideally) lengths of wire used for B+ wiring.
for hookup wires the length should be short enough to render the dielectric property to be minimal.Other dielectric, say, max. voltage rating, could be more of a concern.
