yup... wrt the center tap the DC currents are out of phase with each other so they null to 0 and the inverted nature of the AC signals allows them to add.

Oops that center tap I thought was a center tap, turns out its suppose to be connected to ground!
I have never seen a choke with a shield.
I'm trying to think of an application where the CT of a choke would be connected to ground and the only one I can come up with would be in the tail of PP cathode followers. However since B+ is AC ground I guess that counts too.
