Using an isolation transformer is a proven way to reduce line noise. Before large UPS systems were economical, many broadcast and technical centers had a separate isolation transformer for the technical power distribution to keep it somewhat isolated from other building loads. But these guys still have all their audio gear in parallel with their refrigerator and the plethora of switch mode power supplies in today's households. Putting in a dedicated pole transformer does nothing to isolate other loads within the house. And we know that it's those EMI sources that do the most damage. The inductance of the line wires does help filter out distant noise sources.
Classic case of the audiophile having no knowledge of electrical engineering.
They would be far better served in buying a simple 2kva isolation transformer.

preamp. I sold it to a guy in town. As it was not as good as my other preamps but otherwise working perfectly. Anyway about a week later he calls me complaining about a weird noise that was coming and going. So, i take it back and try to track down the source of the noise. So while it was on and hooked up i get no noise so i started to prod the caps and resistors and one of the caps started like an oscillation noise. So i replace it and retest, no noise, good to go back to the guy. Return it and few days later he calls back, he wants his money back because the noise is still there. so, i go back to his house and check out his place. And in one corner of the living room he has a massive rack of what i believe was computer routers or internet servers, i mean from floor to ceiling and 3 across. I explained to him that it is all the computers that he has in the room that is causing the noise. And he needed to get an isolation transformer or one of those audio power banks to clean up the AC noise. He did that and it helped but the preamp was especially susceptible. dak

An isolation transformer won't stop the air borne stuff.
An am radio, tuned off channel, will show how much RF noise comes out of some of this stuff with switch mode power supplies.

or two.Not just for the main audio system but also for the computer, HT system and the bedroom system.
We don't get a LOT of lightning strikes but there are a lot of aquifers under us making a good ground for lightning. BIG white flashes and big trees split open.
Once I've paid for the new 63 based system and the small split AC system to keep RH around 45% in Summer in that room. Two or more iso-trannies are on my want list.
Costing the installs by our sparky will be a factor.

I did that but the output harmonic distortion was too high.
Yesterday's "news".
.. and it works..
My personal utility pole is carbon fiber, and the transformer (feeding only my dedicated audio circuit) is wound with PCOCC copper and fully immersed in quantum tunneled oil.
Losers.
Although I have not sprung for one, those power "regenerators" sound like a good alternative to bad power.
They're basically a 60Hz oscillator driving a power amp to power the load.
but it can only do up to 150 watts. That good for front end gear. They are supposed to be coming out with higher handling ones.
Get a windmill AL.

When i wanted to do really critical listening i used to wait until past midnight to listen to my lps and equipment changes. I am fortunate that i am first user on the electrical transformer on the pole outside my house. Maybe, these guys should move to the country where the electrical power is less "polluted".
A nice big isolation should make your line quiet all the time.
I have one of these but I never hooked it up.
My line, as is, is pretty quiet.
BTW I have the one shown, the CC2338 16amp model.

Where did you pick up that ? I have a 10A model but there is a noticeable hum that it makes when it is on so i don't use it. I also noticed that there is a slight decrease in dynamics when i used a different model that was silent vs. straight power from the wall. Very slight that you would not notice unless you were testing the effect at 1 AM in the dark so as to not get distracted. cheers.

I think i only paid 5 or 10 bucks for mine. But it is a boat anchor, now.
This is what I have on all of my computer and LED TV (plus cable box and Blu-ray player) lines. With a separate Tripp Lite 1500VA backup attached to the Topaz for the TV lines, computer lines, and son's PlayStation and Wi-U.
Keeps rest of lines pretty clean from digital noise. And the backup has saved a few components during power surges and blackouts. A hard lesson I learned from surges killing computer power supplies (and computers), years ago.
I have a 2KV Topaz on dedicated stereo and guitar amp outlets.
I know, I know... but too much is never enough!

Thankfully, I have a utility pole sitting just behind my property to feed about 10 single family homes so my power line is pretty clean. I felt like I have just saved that 40K for the private utility pole and the transformer.

So what about the hundreds of miles of transmission lines that the power goes through before it gets to his personal pole? Does that have no effect on the sound?

You are not supposed to ask that question. It is like asking why tinkering with the external wires on a transformer can make any significant difference, when the much greater lengths inside the transformer are of necessity left unmodified.
The Hans Christian Andersen story "The Emperor's New Clothes" explored similar territory.

"But if I take it away from him, he will lose the motivation to live." Funny.
Those poles are pretty big. Just sayin'...

Sometimes I wonder if you aren't edging into a 'Wehrmacht porn' state of mind.It suited a mostly land-locked country with plenty of spare big naval rifles and a big railway network to make and use them even outside Germany proper in WWI and WWII.
But the more mobile nature of WWII was such that they were not a major factor for the Germans, who lost anyway.
IF they had been so important the Allied Armies in Europe after 1943 would have had as many as they could, but they did not. Viz. I don't think the USArmy's biggest (240Mm?) was ever mounted so.
? Air power.
I am currently re-reading 'Hitler's Panzers', and highly recommend you read it, too. It's recent-ish and by an American prof - Dennis Showalter - so you should be able to find a copy. Click down below.
A truly coherent story, and almost a systems approach.
Very few pictures, though.

Yes, during WW2 a 240 mM. howitzer was the biggest U.S. field artillery piece. It was towed.
3 classes of fast battleships carried 16 inch (406.4 mM.) weapons.

Prolly took large role of large mobile arty. Thanks, for book rec. Will look into it.

hey, if they have the money and think it sound better....LOL!
I get a better improvement in sound every night after I have a glass or two of wine. The highs are clearer and soundstage is wider/deeper! LOL! Doesn't cost much either! LOL!
A back street in Bangkok. I presume they are power wires up there.
ray
Used to travel to Bangkok every 6 weeks for meetings - these pictures don't do their power distribution justice .... it's worse ...
Not that the power lines are tidy, but most of that stuff is data transmission line; phone, cable, etc...
cheers,
Douglas
