But doesn't the upper triode present a higher load impedance than a simple plate resistor value, that would cause the same voltage drop, and wouldn't that be an advantage?

Is that what Gordon was saying?
When used with a high-Z load, the resistance of the upper triode changes in phase with the resistance of the lower one. That's not advantageous relative to a fixed anode resistor. The only benefit that can be derived from this arrangement is the ability to apply significantly more anode voltage. That enables a larger voltage swing than is possible with a single tube and resistor.
