Begging the moderators tolerance:
It breaks my heart, but I have to offload my library.
There is no appropriate category for such things in the Asylum Trader, so I've placed it in "DIY Test Equipment" and I hope the mods don't mind me spamming the forum to tell people it's there.
Some will remember that I was once a very active contributor here and was well known for being able to find very obscure information: this library was its source. My health problems mean I will never use it again, I'd like it to go where it will be loved.

Are you still doing the wine consulting?

I'm currently supposed to be doing a PhD in Oenology.
I say supposed to because I've been on sick leave since I commenced, my cancer was diagnosed shortly after the scholarship was awarded.

thanks for all your posts, I hope everything gets better soon
I'm sorry to hear that you're having health issues. I hope the situation improves for you and that you'll remain active here. Can you tell me where the library is listed? I don't see a "DIY Test Equipment" forum.

hello world
I can imagine how hard to make such kind of decision, let go a life time collection of certain items. I wish you well and I hope your wonderful collection of books find a good home.
Mark,
I hope your health problems are not serious and that you will recover soon.
Your posts were always very informative based on a lot knowledge. I really liked all you posted.

Mark - you have been a wonderful and generous contributor to this forum. Many of us have learned from you and have held you in the highest respect. It is saddening to hear you have health problems and I'm sure all of us wish you well.

Thanks for your kind words.
It's not as dire as I might have made it sound, the doctors say I am clear post surgery and my 5 year prognosis is good (pending annual checks etc).
The whole thing forced a re-evaluation of what I spend time and energy on, hence the clear out.

"clear"!

But breaking them into the smaller lots and selling them on e-bay would be my suggestion. And the rare ones on Amazon.com. Just my 2c.

I know I can get more money that way and if no-one can afford to keep them together that's what I'll do.
It took me about 15 years to find them all and I now think of them as belonging together. Irrational, I know, but I'm allowed to be.

If I can't sell them as a group I'll send you Van der Bijl for free. It's not a particularly good copy, having been in a university library for over 70 years.I'd guessed from the name that he, or at least his family, was from your neck of the woods. I've now found that he was a Seth Efriken whose family had been there from the 1600s.

I've been reading the biography, and amongst the many fascinating tidbits (HJvdB designed the WE101A, how about that?) it says that the total sales for the book were about 10,000 copies: in contrast I've seen it stated that over half a million copies of RDH4 were sold.Given that the van der Bijl book was published over 90 years ago, there can't be many left. The offer stands.

I hope for you that you'll sell the works.
Never heard about Van der Bijl until I got into tubes. When back in South Africa he continued making a difference. One of South Africa's unsung greats.
To infinity and beyond!!!
