"black insulation on clip leads and ground wires is for working out the basic circuit only. Not recommended for a final build."
Please tell me that you are joking. What possible difference would the use of black wires make on a level indicator?
I use some generic black wires while working out the basic function of a circuit.
If you are going to build a "modern" tube amplifier circuit, contact either Dennis Fraker of Serious Stereo (Tube Wrangler) or Jeff Medwin of AMA (DrLowMu) for their latest recommended internal hookup wiring.
As for the magic eye circuit, I just copied some of the Mapletree circuit.

Yes, I am all too familiar with the many Medwin/Fraker "rules". I don't buy into the concept that a black wire can sound different than any other color when used in an audio path, but blind adherence to this "rule" for a level indicator is truly silly. Do you really believe that you can "see" the difference between a black and white wire on a level indicator?
Another thing that irritates me about the "black wire is bad" idea is that it's just one more example of unfounded prejudice. Thing about it - "Devil's food cake" is what color? Black, of course. "Angel food cake" is what color? White, of course.
Dennis Fraker and Jeff Medwin are the experts in regards to all modern tube amp design elements.
I will defer to them on the subject of what type of hookup wire is best in a magic eye circuit.
Perhaps you could contact Dennis or Jeff on this subject?
Or start a new thread and perhaps another forum participant will have some experiences to convey to the group about this topic.

O.K. I guess that ends all further discussion. No need to think for oneself!

Mikey B.,
Why not let the experts (Fraker and Medwin) offer you some guidance in regards to your questions about internal hookup wiring?
I have not even done any subjective A-B tests on different hookup wires in a magic eye circuit, so I can't offer an enlightened opinion for you.
It has nothing to do with thinking for myself or not.
If they have some answers, consider that the final word on the subject.
Have a good day,

Deathtube,You have openly admitted to being a beginner and novice when it come to electronic design. So what measure are you using to appoint Fraker and Medwin experts?
Numerous industry professionals here have disputed their claims and offered accredited proof to that end.
Believe what you want then. As I said before, I hope you aren't going to try and take up any electronics profession based on what you post here.

Gusser,
Thanks for the uplifting comments.
It is always nice to hear from you.

I get the distinct impression that, while several of you guys are obviously enjoying the satire of the "black wire" thing, when the original poster obviously was refering to the temporary clips, others are actually taking this seriously. I hope to god um wrong.
