The DC Audio DIY group has taken a suite (#365) at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Rockville, MD, July 8-10. I'll be there with a modded Otari and unique tapehead preamp built by a fellow group member, plus a bunch of tapes -- the usual suspects, Kind of Blue, Brubeck's Time Out, Burrell's Midnight Blue, etc. Check the schedule on a whiteboard at the door. We would love to see any open reel fans. Plenty of DIY amps, speakers, etc. to demo too, and vinyl will be a major focus.
Follow Ups:
That you played some Miles Davis on R2R to good effect. What were the impressions there?
Regards,
Joel
The only problem in playing tape under show conditions is the the difficulty of finding and playing individual tracks and the lengthy time involved in rewinding -- all the stuff that we take for granted at home but not much fun when you're trying to minimize "dead air" at a show. "Kind of Blue" was a definite hit, though. In a comparison with a fine turntable playing one of the best KOB LPs, the tape pretty much ruled.
Will there be any hi-rez digital downloads and/or hi-rez Blu-Ray converted and transferred to glorious 2-track high-speed R2R to be heard in that suite?? I heard that was the most magical combination ever made. ;)
Regards,
Joel
