A question from a good friend:
Can Totem Acoustic "Dreamcatcher" (4ohm impedance) be "stacked" (wired in parallel?) as he remembers doing to great effect with his Large Advents, or would the resultant 2ohm(?) imdpedance of the "stacked Dreamcatchers" blow up his amp, a McCormack DNA 125? It's been a long time since I've thought of such things...
MTIA
Or is this a question for the Amp guys?
Follow Ups:
He certainly should try it, but a proper amp is required. I stack a pair of AR 3's on top of a pair of AR 3a's, and use a Crown XLS1000 pro amp to drive them all. It can safely handle loads of 2 ohms, and generate 525 watts doing it. I stack them horizontally, and I like the results. There are several variations of the Crown XLS series, the 1000 being the smallest, power wise. They represent a great bang for the buck.
Do a search on stacking. Sound wise it really isn't a good idea. It has to do with the spacial distance between the drivers causing a "lobing" effect.
as sbergerger has sone with his AR3s, i stacked dynaco a25s horizontally with great success and no real penalty in imaging, but the a25s were never imaging kings.
i can see the dreamcatchers doing nicely here horizontally. had i four of them, i would try it to see.

an adcom amp will do the job. AHC used an ADCOM 555 to drive the apogee scintillas at ONE OHM impedance.

You can try wiring them in series, that would double the impedance from 4 to 8 ohms!
I would not do it.
The McCormack is 125 watts into 8 ohms and 200 watts into 4 ohms. They give no 2 ohm rating. I would not do it. There will be some frequencies that will have impedance's below 2 ohms. Not good
