Audiophiles try hard to remove unwanted resonance. However, non-audiophile family members try to put things whenever they see a horizontal surface, and the top surface of a loudspeaker is no exception. Moreover they love to put things on top of the speakers due to the location of the speakers in the living room.How do you deal with this problem?

For years my woman likes to put birthday cards and any crap in front of the tweeters on my B&W's.
I feel its done almost deliberately.
I now wont allow at all period.
Its a females way of marking her turf like a dog pees on a pole!!!

Upon close inspection, it clearly is a left speaker.

Pretty much all of the horizontal surfaces in our house are covered with my stuff - mostly paper. I finally got so fed up with my office area that I started a new office on the dining room table.
I leave a certain few select surfaces of the house alone, out of respect for my wife.
Anyway, my speakers don't have anything on top of them, 'cause they're tilted back against the wall - tweeters and rooms being what they are.

You know, the ones with the glass top?
I kept on moving them. she kept on putting them back when I was at work.
Yeah, she overwatered them a few times and the cabinets warped to the point they were ugly as hell but they still sounded fine.
but she is the Queen of the HT in the family room and selected the artificial greenery to grace the interfaces.
Adds some needed "diffraction", too. :)
Pretty tough to put things "on top of" a 2+2, if that is indeed what I'm seeing.

You can put stuff up at 94", but would be a better place to hide things. :)

just thinking OUT LOUD.
So true. Everyone seems to put drinks, bags, or even just lean on them. So frustrating. So far the only thing that i have found to work, sometimes, is I put a cool drawing- in this case a zen tangle made by my kids- on top. People usually respect the drawings. Except for a few ladies bags! Argh. But at least the family leaves them alone now.
