Just wondering if this a fairly low quality woofer, (know it is priced fairly low). I am thinking of pairing two of them per enclosure with a Fountek Ribbon, in a two-way. I am wondering if the mid-range might be a bit bright. I have no experience with alloy cone mid bass drivers. Madisound will do a leap for me. Any opinions would be helpful.

Airtime has great points but I would change the words better tweeter to more suited. The tweeter is nice but has a recommended range of 2.5K up. This means you need a woofer that will go at least that high. Those woofers fall way short. Sure they respond much higher than 1K but not anywhere near flat. They are only effective to 1K. I wouldnt use them above 1K, zoebel notch or not. You need drivers that match each other much much better.ET

Thanks for the responses. I think I am probably going to stick with the SEAS CA22RNX(H1288) 8 inch hard paper cone. I still would like to use one of the Fountek ribbons. Is it really that hard? I always have MAdisound do a leap for me and build my crossovers. This would be about my fifth build. It has been some years since I had MAdisound do this for me, but any advice would be helpful.
Try the Er18 Seas
That looks like a lot better match. Madisound will have good info regarding which crossover design and parts too. Good luck.

That is going to be a problem. The woofer shows a pretty good spike in the 2kHz range. So you will need a notch filter. And the Fountek will NOT get low enough to cover the crossover frequency. I've worked with those tweeters and WOW - are they a bitch to get right!!!
The woofer itself can be made to sound pretty good. Providing - and this is a BIG providing!!!! you design the crossovers correctly. Match it up with a better tweeter.
If you are starting to learn how to DIYing speakers then start with drivers that have nice big smooth rolloffs. Don't start with exotic materials with difficult properties.
Paper cones woofers and silk dome tweeters are your smoothest choices.
Or if you just want to build a speaker then look into the kits over at Madisound. Zaph designs are simply the best you'll ever get.
I built the SR-71 and can't say enough about how good they sound.
enjoy the ride
