Hi
I have owned my Guarneris now for quite some time and so I am contemplating a change.
Are there any SF Guarneri owners who have made a change for the better and is so what to?
Bearing in mind the said replacement needs to be in a similar affordable price bracket or close.
Des what are your thought being a SF Guarneri owner and avid audio show visitor?
Follow Ups:
I am a violinist and used to own the GH for a couple of years (never quite sure if I was idly tempted by the fact that i play a fiddle with the same name, but the sound was brilliant!), replaced them with the Merlin VSM Mxe and never looked back. I believe the current Merlin is something very special, recommended without hesitation (and no affiliation)
best wishes for your search
(And no: the current Guarneri have changed direction entirely, they are not the same esthetics at all)

I've had mine since 2007 and have upgraded the BAM to the "Master" version. They finesse more music from my collection than any dynamic speaker I've owned, and they portray that music most effectively.

Last decade, when I reviewed Simaudio's Andromeda, P-8, and W-7, they belonged to a guy who had, among others, the Sonus Faber Guarneri Memento.Don't let the photos fool you; in real life, when coupled to the stringed stands, the GM is LARGE. They need room to breathe. The guy's room was about 25x16, but with openings to the kitchen and patio. I thought this was an ideal room for the GM, with us sitting at the rear 30% of the room. You'll have to play around with (a) toe-in, and (b) your listening height.
If the guy's Dynaudio loudspeakers [cables were the Nordost Valhalla and Odin I have reviewed] were like electric and electronic rock, then swapping those for the GM was like going to Guns 'N Roses' "November Rain," or Metallica's S&M . IOW, the Guarneri Memento was a little more acoustic.
I never heard the original Guarneri Homage, so I can't comment. But the GM owner said that the GM left the Guarneri Homage sounding a little "limp."
Ya know, there are some people here on AA, who have a preference for DACs from the 90s. They may not be as smooth and refined as today's DACs, but some just flat-out rocked better. The same guy with the GM also had the Mark Levinson No. 37 and 360S combo. When we played Slayer's South Of Heaven the Levinson combo (and, by extension, the GM) did a credible job of making the guitars and amps sound plausible.
In the right-sized rooms, I have heard Sonus Faber's Cremona Auditor convincingly rock to Starpoint's "Object Of My Desire." But going up to the GM gives a useful boost in texture, sultry sexiness, and, well, desire.
Again, I don't have enough meaningful experience with the Guarneri Homage. But to me, SF's own Guarneri Memento, with which I do have experience, seems like a logical and evolutionary next step.

I own the GH's and think they are a very special speaker. Much like the phrase, "man does not live by bread alone", I don't I could live with "one speaker" alone so I have a couple of systems.
Short of owning multiple speakers/systems, I'd recommend listening to some Magnepans (pick a model in your budget) and see if they do anything for you. I use 3.6's in another system that sounds pretty special to me. Hard to call it "better", just different and as enjoyable. Good luck.
