I may be able to acquire a pair of these, 2nd hand (obviously); so, questions:
1) Are these still a Peter Snell design, or Kevin Voecks'? (1994, I think)
2) What is the sensitivity of these? (i.e., can low-watt amps be used to good effect in driving them?)
3) Does the sound bear much, if any, resemblance to the Audio Note speakers based on them? Failing that, how do they sound generally?
Thanks ....

I would not hang on similarities between Peter Snell and Peter Qvortrup speakers. They sound different now . Grab those JIII. Ton of sound for little money and still tube friendly.
I have originals K's . They sound business except that wretched hot tweeter
which after a short deliberation has to stay cuz it's so well integrated .
I own a pair of Snell J III's and they sound fantastic. The cones and surrounds were replaced which lowers there collectivity value but I go by how a speaker sounds, not if it is worth a few dollars more because it is a mk. II model. They are under valued on the used market as far as I am concerned. You can get a nice pair for $200. They sound way better than a $200 speaker......
From Peter QvortrupKevin Voecks designed the non-classic speakers after Peter Snell's death, they were,
K/II
J/III
E/III
Ci
A/IIIiThe Peter Snell designed speakers they replaced were,
K
J/II
E/II
C
A/III
From what I could find about the J/III they were 91db sensitive and amplifier power request is 15-150 watts. And a further note

Thanks!! Learned a lot from your (and Peter Qvortrup's) posts. I'll probably pass on these J/III's, then.
With the "real" Snell models you can at least get parts from Audio Note - like drivers and surrounds and stuff. With the other models (indeed a lot of speaker makers in general) getting parts for old models may be difficult. I've seen people buy speakers from very major brands and their speaker is just 7 years old and they can't get parts for them. So these days when I buy things I do factor that kind of stuff in. The new kid on the block can be great but what if the company goes belly up in 2 years.
