Hi! New guy here.
Debating on a pair of kg-4s or a new pair of something comparable. Thoughts? The kg-4s are $250.
Follow Ups:
I own a pair of KG 4.2 speakers. It's a sealed box, two-way (with one passive woofer for bass reinforcement) design that actually sounds pretty good and is easy to drive as well. It's one of the better budget speakers ever made by Klipsch, IMO. Not harsh and strident sounding at all. Portrays the music with a rather broad brush (so to speak), though. Not the last word in detail retrieval or micro-dynamics...
The bigger, three-way models like the Forte and the Cornwall get most of the attention nowadays. Resolution is somewhat enhanced over the two-way models
Thanks for all the great responses! I like the smaller size of the Kg 4s. If I had more space I would go for the larger forte, quartet or even cornwall.
Any other recommendations for smaller vintage speakers?
kg2s work well in second systems, they have a dome tweeter. I picked up a pair for a hundy, well worth it.
ADS L400's and L420's are also good bang-for-the-buck performers. Hundy each for both those bad boys. No Wilson or such, but very pleasing.

I sold a lot of those, they're good.
A good 50W SS amp or 35W tube is adequate.
I like the Forte best, followed by the Cornwall II.
You might also keep an eye out for the Quartet.
The above mentioned are three-way and have the same midrange driver in them.
All have the same tweeter diaphragm (including the KG-4).
What do you like so much about the II in particular?
I like it better than the original Cornwall, better tweeter, better crossover, brace from front-to-back.
They'll sound good on many types of amps. I once had my Khorns plumbed into:
A pair of McIntosh MC-30's, tubed / 30 watts each
A McIntosh 2102 tubed/100 watts-channel
A pair of Wright 2A3, tubed, about 8 watts each
A pair of Transcendent SE-OTL amps, bridged to 4 watts each
A pair of Quad II amps, something like 40 watts each
A Viva 300B-SET amp, around 8 watts/channel
dbx Bx1 monster amp, 400 watts channel
dbx Bx3 monster amp, 400 watts channel
I'm not saying there were not 'differences'. I'm saying that as long as you stayed in the working range of a respective amp, the differences were small and not "OMG" like you sometimes read.
The "OMG" difference came from selling the 3-way Khorns and moving to the 2-way Jubilee. That was a far more substantial change (improvement) than dinkering around with those various amps.
Today, I'm using some Crown K2's on each Jubilee and have multiple thousands of dollars back in my pocket from selling the various tube amps.
A pair of Klipsch Quartets would do you well. think of them as mini Fortes
10 in woofer, mid, tweeter good sound used around 200-400 in good shape
and yes tubes makes them scream i use a 1.75 wpc Grommes PHI-26 and get plenty of sound
I have both KG4s and Fortes, and I agree with the previous posters. While the KG4s are excellent speakers, the Fortes are a cut above. Unfortunately, that means a probable doubling of cost. As for comparisons to more modern Klipsch, I've only heard them at big box stores, and to my ears they sound way too bright. Considering I'm 66, they must be REALLY bright. With that in mind, I don't think you can go wrong with just about any vintage Klipsch. Good luck. :-)
look for the Forte, much better speaker for a little more money. If cash allows go for Cornwall 2 (ex-owner)
Second,
Forte or cornwall.
Welcome! I like the older models/sound.
I've heard you should power them with tube amps. I have an early '90's Rotel. Will that produce good sound?
Edits: 02/22/15
Yes it is enough to get started.
It would probably sound good with the Rotel. Depends on which sounds best to you, some like tube, some like solid state
