Just got the SCAN 18WU/8741 last year. I am wondering what material is used to manufacture the surround of this driver.
It does not look like rubber or foam to me. If it is made of foam, then I would not expect it to last for more than 5 years.
Just wondering what that material is.

Newer foams will last quite a bit longer than what was available in the 70's. (Especially on a driver that nice)Troels says that they are rubber.

The Scan 21w/8554 which is made in the 90's can last no more than 5 years before it breaks. (that is my personal experience)
So I am not convinced they can last longer than that if they are foam.
But I am still not sure what what they are made of.
