I was looking at these for use with a 20 watt tube amp.
What I'm looking for is detailed musical sound for low level classical music.
How do these stack up against Zaph Audio SR-71's?

I had the Decware HDT and now have the MG944. They both have very good bass and do not have that horn honk. The MG944 have a ribbon tweeter.
The DM945s are very interesting as they are yet another version of the 'sensitive, almost full range mid/bass driver run full-bore without crossover, plus tweeter above 6kHz' design, like my present Triangle Titus 202 monitors, and the lusted-for Reference 3A MM DeCapo i (now BE) speakers. The Zaph audio speakers are 'standard' design with 'standard' efficiency (maybe lower than normal); they may sound great with a 20Wpc tube amp though, impossible for me to comment on that. For low level listening (in a small-medium sized room) they may be just fine.
(edit: aha, I see you HAVE the Zaph speakers ... but my comments may still apply.)
I think (from reading, not experience, altho my speakers ARE efficient) that the more efficient speakers will give you more realistic sounding dynamics, which may be important with classical music. The sudden changes from mf to f and then to pp for example would (IIUC) have greater impact/emotion with a sensitive speaker. Also, related to that, the 20Wpc amp wouldn't run out of steam when producing such music. With the lesser sensitivity, the f or ff passages may be compressed, and not give you the response (sonically, musically, and emotionally) that is available.
I haven't done 'side by side' comparisons of my present speakers vs. more 'traditional' designs, altho I could - my previous main speakers were B&W DM601s (original version), which I still have in the family room's surround system. I know the Tituses sound better, but is their high efficiency a factor? I don't know, and really don't want to do a comparison, I just enjoy them.
I'd say go for the Decware speakers ... they are certainly on my list as well, whenever I get a chance to spend money again on speakers. I bet they'd sing very nicely with my 8Wpc 300B tube amps (as would the DeCapos). I have been lusting after the DeCapos for so long, however, that I will likely buy a pair of them before anything else - they come up for $1500/pair or so on the used market occasionally (earlier versions tho).
Edit/PS: I'd say if you can spend ~$1500 or so, and like what you read about them, go for some used DeCapos ... I won't be able to spend money for a while now, so you can tell me how you like them! :D

Rick,
I have De Capos. They are great and worh the wait. I will be building an Audio Note Kit 1 SET (300b) to run mine.
Hope you score a pair soon!!
I don't presently own but have owned the DM945's They were the best stand mount speakers I ever had and I have had many. I was stupid for selling them. I would buy again in a heart beat......
I had the ERR's which used that tweeter. Loved the tweeter. Can't comment on the rest because the ERR is a radiating design.
