Bought these on a lark because they are the closest thing you can get these days to a 'modern ADS speaker'.
More later, but these are very nice and are competitive with more expensive speakers (KEF, Harbeth, etc). They are certainly one of the best looking 'monitor on a stand' speakers I've seen in some time.
If you're an ADS fan these certainly have that house sound (a good thing, IMHO).

And if so, would you buy the chair again?
Thanks.
Would I buy again? In terms of comfort certainly. My caveat is durability over the long term. I come from a generation that believes that furniture should last. The foam filling used by Ekornes will likely collapse by 10 years use. The leather offered for some choices, whilst having a superb surface finish, is thin and will show significant signs of wear within 5 years (e.g. small holes where rubbed by arms etc). The main springs are likely to go at about the same time as the foam. Incidentally a one person household so my use may be lighter than in a family home.
None of the above is unique to my experience. I have had the chair rebuilt and recovered by a craftsman in Scotland who runs a specialist business restoring Ekornes chairs using superb Scottish leather and more durable foam (Ekornes original parts elsewhere if required). He has sufficient work to make it typical for a six month wait before he has a slot to start on a new chair. So lots of Ekornes chairs need a rebuild yet are still valued by their owners.
So , great chair, worth restoring when the time comes but bear the ultimate need in mind.
PAR, thanks for the informative reply. I've admired Ekornes chairs for years. The durability details you provide are appreciated.
It's a wonderful chair but not enough lap room in it for two cats.
Would get a sofa next time, they like to listen to music too.
If it were just me, sure.

I have two dogs who like to listen too, so I guess a new couch is a good idea.
I did sit in one of those Ekornes at a home show years ago, and couldn't believe how comfortable it was. But I'd rather have the dogs next to me.
Thanks.
I i have one and I would definitely buy again.
Ah, thats the speaker I wanted to audition and tried at Stereo Exchange in Manhattan. The guy there had never heard of it!
I think this speaker was formerly Musical Fidelity speaker that was reviewed by JA. I could be wrong.
Wonderful they look in your room I have a vague memory of a pair of KEFs on a Mezzanine floor. Do you have KEFs also?
Cheers
Bill
Actually, the Peachtree speakers were formerly known as Era. The D5 was known as the Era Design 5. According to "The Absolute Sound," the drivers were designed by Aerial's Michael Kelly.
-Bob
Michael Kelly himself has told me that's true.

Nope, this was never a MF speaker.
Yup, I have LS-50's which I use downstairs in the home theater. They're quite the speaker. Haven't done any direct compares but so far I'd say they're more detailed than the D5, but the D5 is smoother and has lower bass. I guess I still prefer a soft-dome tweeter to a metal-dome.

Agreed, I prefer soft dome tweeters as well. Can't explain it, but that's the way it is for me.
Nice speakers. Looking forward to your 6 month review.

Great pics! What is your listening room size(s)?
About 12 feet deep and 15 wide. It's a loft, with a half wall on one end, very open.
Nice room. I can use smallish to medium size speakers in it and they work really well. It could be a hair bigger for my Quads, but they sound very good here.
Just finished listening to Edvard Grieg's Symphony in C minor on the Peachtrees. They are strangely satisfying to listen to. As I've noted, very reminiscent to ADS in that regard.

Have you demo'ed Aerial speakers?
I had A/D/S car audio speakers way back - never had home speakers.
I've never heard Aerials. Thought about buying the new towers but they got to be bigger, heavier, and pricier than initial reports indicated.
My first pair of really good speakers was 1977, ADS 500's, an 8" two-way that retailed for $299. Damn they were good.
And one of my biggest audio regrets was selling my 710 MKII's. What a bonehead move - they were awesome.
I had L400's with a subwoofer for three years - very nice setup.
These D5's remind me of bigger, better versions of the L400's.

Right On!
I have auditioned both the Aerial 6/7T models and could not get into their 'sound'. Still, I would like to demo the 10/20T models for a comparison.
