Just read the review in Stereophile. Lots of buzz about these on the net, too.I wish I could hear a pair! Maybe if there's a dealer in Seattle I'll do a day trip.

Heard these in my room (about 13 * 18). I thought the speaker sounded really good, except for the ported bass. As the woofer handed off to the port, the contribution of the port became quite obvious. That ruined it for me.
The usual caveats apply - my room, my system, my ears, etc.
FWIW, the M106 sounded better than the M105.

I don't know why people are bashing these speakers, I've had them over a year and love them..... Like any speaker they're not for everyone and system synergy has a lot to do with it, but for a small speaker they have really impressed me. Put them with a good sub running full range and employing a low steep low pass x over to the sub they make for a great sounding compact system. Regardless of what people say these deserve an audition
I own Revel F52's as well, didn't think anything could get me away from Dynaudio. I've heard the M106 & 206, the Performa 3 are nothing like the Performa 2. Revel claims to have done a lot of listening with their "state of the art blind listening" set up, but they only use one speaker opposed to a pair. Any way the Performa 3 series went a different way on sound. I had and offer to trade into the P3, I said, no thanks. As Slippers stated the M106 is runt of that series. It's also true it's out of character with the rest of the P3 series and I found it less appealing as well.
The F52 is one of the most balanced and accurate speakers I've heard, and I really can't think of another speaker that provides the kind of low end detail the F52 does.
It's also true we all like different responses from speakers, one friend thought my system didn't have bass, I told him it's his CD and had to play something with bass content, the F52's aren't going to add anything to the sound. This guy preferred a less honest presentation, one that would provide him some bass bloom.
Hope you get a demo on these speakers. Over the years, I have auditioned both Revel & Aerial and was left underwhelmed.
Just to buy the raw drivers are MAJOR bucks and considered VERY high end drivers in the DIY crowd !!!!!
That SHOULD be a nice speaker to hear.

Revel designs and makes their own drivers, these days mostly in China to the best of my knowledge.

Sorry, I was looking at some other speaker. And it used ScanSpeak drivers.
The revels????????????? I donnknow - I'm not a big fan of poly cone woofers?

I've had an extended listen to these, like months. I don't get the reviews. Makes you think some guys are paid to give good remarks. These speakers are dark and would not open up. I would say these are one of the worse speakers Revel makes. I've heard the entire performance series and by far the F208's are the best. And as crazy as this sounds....the M105 are more open than the M106's which are just terrible!
I've also had a listen to the Revel Studio2 as well as the Salon2 reference speakers. With that tweeter...they are absolutely fabulous!
for the characteristics of the type of sound we listen to from speakers. You can't please everybody.
If the Revels are "rotten", then they will failed where it is nearly impossible to do so. I have never heard a small monitor that didn't produce good sound to my ears and brain. The sonic differences between the dozen or so I have heard were much smaller than for the floor-standing 3-way speakers I have heard. And that includes a very well used vintage Dynaco mini-mini that probably cost $25 new and quite a few LS3/5A types, along with assorted Epos and even the new, highly touted KEF mini, plus some older Yamahas and a few low-priced American brands I heard before I got deep into the hobby and have long since forgotten the manufacturers' names.
Observe, before you think. Think before you open your yap. Act on the basis of experience.
after John Atkinson gave them a rave review. I was underwhelmed. More recently, I heard the Studio2 or Salon2 - don't recall which - at RMAF. I was again underwhelmed. I suppose it could be the electronics/room, but I've yet to hear what the fuss is regarding Revel speakers.
Also, it's disappointing that they've off-shored production.
I've heard the Salons as well as the Studio in the home.....so that maybe why they sounded great. I had the M106 in my home for like 6 months.
I can tell you why. The Revel F52's that I have now and owned longer than any other speaker beat out:
Magnepan MG3.6 with my stands
B&W matrix 801 III with sound anchor stands
Spendor SP1/2e
Audio Physics Virgo III
Von Scwechert VR4jr
Harbeth HL5
I listen to 80% classic rock or 20% blues on vinyl with PASS or Manley electronics.
My next speaker will probably be the Revel Salon II
Revels are well-reviewed speakers. I'm not claiming they're bad, merely that my auditions have fallen short of expectations. Note that my RMAF audition was in the Revel/Levinson room, set up by Voecks himself. Presumably, that system was dialed in . . .
