I just got an email from BestBuy showing their Labor Day deals. The Andrew Jones-designed Pioneer speakers that have been raved about are being offered for really good prices. Take a look at 'em via linky below...

for US$225 a pair. These are fantastic sounding speakers, and they are active so the amplifiers are already built in. Just plug into the back of your PC or Mac with the linked cable or something similar and have a ball!
Of course these speakers will respond to pampering, just like any others, so be sure to get them some appropriate stands! Throw in a DAC and a pre-amp if you want. Still, they will sound great right out of a PC or Mac, so long as you position them with the tweeters near ear level!
Remember: horses for courses. These are excellent for use as PC speakers or in small rooms. I don't recommend them for medium or larger rooms.

I just can't say enough how much I love my (now 2 pairs) of SKF-4800 floorstanders which I got for a rediculous $200 per pair. Was supposed to be for fun on a rainy day - now have been in for almost 3 months. In a 8' equilateral triangle, in a room where neither the speakers nor I am within 8' of any wall - powered by my 140 watt Quad 606, this is heavenly.Massive imax-size image with great delicacy of fine details, dynamics enough for AC/DC but really deliver on beautiful music. Exceptional PRAT. The first compliment I ever got from the wife on any system I've ever had over the decades - and it wasn't vague like "nice big sound", she said "it's like all the music is totally synchronized directly on my brain", this while sitting 8' away. Only if your source is up to it of course, my lowly circa 2009 Blue Circle USB Thingee dac obviously is. They take 50 hours to turn the corner and recalling from my 1st pair, I loved them even more as time went on - I'm around hour 50 on the 2nd pair now.
In my large room, 50 watt amps fall on their face with these - and I doubt you could cram their sound into a small space, I tried in a 16x14 room, couldn't do it - but it was a bad room acoustically so there may still be hope.

Now I have to wait for break-in. It seems I have a bit more sound from one than the other out of the box. I'll swap them tomorrow to make sure there aren't any issues. Also, one box wasn't sealed but the innards looked the same.

All things are fine. They provide more impactful bass than the 10in AAD sub I was using. There's better separation and opened up the overall presentation. These little subs are in a 17x35 with cathedral ceilings room and I can feel the bass after just a couple of LPs. I'm sure they'll open up even more after break-in.

I am amazed that you have speakers like this for such a low price on the one end and 100K ones at the other.
The mind boggles!
get easily boggled.
I have some Arnie Nudell designed Eosone subwoofers using off the shelf Polk drivers in the HT system that cost a great deal less than those in the $300k Genesis 1.2. :)
Yamaha YST-SW105? Using the Yammie as a mate to a pair of desktop Scandyna Mircopod's and it sounds pretty good.
Thoughts??
which, in addition, has the 1st generation towers for $149 a pair.
Thanks! for sharing All. Every once in a while a major player (like Sony or Pioneer) will produce an excellent speaker under the radar.
for a bit less than Best Buy.
Those poor Asian production workers are pretty darn good. They're going even farther on a bowl of rice than anyone had ever thought possible...
