Other than a Peachtree D4?

it is only slightly larger than the 400. Good luck with the hunt.

dozens of modern speakers in the compact two way 5-7" woofer format available today. I used to sell the A/D/S brand in the late 70s and owned a pair of LV1020s myself.
I think the biggest change between older ADS speakers and more modern flavors has to do with the cabinet. As good as the drivers were, you can definitely hear the box with older ADS speakers. What I use in the rear of the HT and in the bedroom is the Polk LSi7. Say what you will about Polk, but these compact monitors are quite neutral (just plug the front port) and use what are essentially ScanSpeak ring radiator tweeters. While they use 5.25" woofers, the cabinets are nearly double the weight of the L400.
...but given that L400s last forever and can be found for $200, I wouldn't bother looking. Anything that compares favorably in that size is apt to cost far more.

I too miss A/D/S. I have had several auditions w/ Aerial- much disappointment.
I'd say it's the a/d/s or Braun L400/L400e. They made a gazillion of them and they're always on ebay. They hold up well - woofer surrounds don't rot, though it might be worth replacing any electrolytics in the crossover. Still loving my L300s.
The Braun/ads line still competes. Sterling Sound kept LV1020's for mastering until just a few years ago. Granted, big rectangular boxes won't disappear as completely as more recent designs, but they tell a version of truth that can be pretty enjoyable.
