Hey all,
Need help identifying vintage driver pulled from Jennings Research Contrara pedestal speakers. They are NOT the Elan's, but the ones with two 8" drivers and silk dome tweet. Seems like all the threads I found while searching were AudioKarma. Only found one thread that mentioned Audax as the brand of woofer, but I think they were talking about the Elan.
Just picked up a pair locally cheap and one of the drivers had been replaced with a Ratshack 8" full range driver. I'd like to locate a near original driver to really test the speakers.
The numbers stamped on the magnet are kind of faded, but looks like it reads "12081008". Rubber surround and some kind of fiber or paper cone. Resistance with my DVM reads about 7 ohms, so I figure these are 8ohm nominal.
Here's link to an Ebay listing similar to mine.

Any help is appreciated. If all else fails I'll probably be back asking about modern replacements.

I think i have the answer. I have a set of Jennings rectangles. Looking at the codes. I see 1056 which matches to Fisher. And I have seen Fisher speakers listed on Fleabay that show the same markings. And look the same. Sorry to say they are Fishers. But I'm pretty sure that is the correct answer.
PS I need one as well. 4 ohm.
Hopefully this gets bumped and dogwan sees it because i have the same question and wanted to know what his resolution was on this jennings research driver. I need to replace the exact same one you were questioning. Thanks. Chris.
Found an obscure reference in this thread...
I sincerely doubt it was Hokutone, the metal work on the bumped back-plate is not what you would see on a Hokutone driver.
Those date back 40 years, and not many companies would like to glue rubber surrounds to metal frames. Gefco and Carbonneau come to mind.
RTR made some OEM drivers with rubber surrounds, they were based in California, so that is probable too.
.
It could be a Gefco driver.
The pictures are not in the best focus, and there should be some more numbers on the frame somewhere.
There used to be a huge number of driver manufacturers in the Midwest, not so many today.
Thanks djk.
Unfortunately there are no other markings on the frame or magnet anywhere.
And, I just tried to wipe some of the dirt off with a damp cloth. The numbers that were there came right off. That picture was of the most readable of the 3 that I have. Ooops.
I did search Google images and the frame does look like some other Gefco vintage drivers (also similar to vintage Bose, which I think were OEM'd by Gefco?). But, all the images I found had very clear red ink EIA codes.
Hmmmm?
