Have had these for close to 7 months. Very transparent, great soundstaging. These speakers sound best with high power amps. First set of speakers that has stopped my continues change of speaker hardware. They lack slam for home theater, but it is a barely noticeable weakness. The positioning has to be perfect to fully take advantage of the Magnepan magic - otherwise they sound like regular speakers.
If you have a tile floor and the maid mops frequently, watch out for moisture seeping into the bottom of the frame.
Resistors are needed early on - unnecessary (in my case) after burn-in. Best for jazz and classical - a stretch for rock (although these speakers are magical for string instruments - they sound great there).
Product Weakness: | Lacks "slam" of dynamic drivers, tough to match with a sub (sub must be quick), spouse-appeal factor low due to size and need to position them away from back and side walls. My wife also alleges the steel legs are scratching the adobe-tiled floor. |
Product Strengths: | Soundstaging, neutrality, clarity. |

you may want to elevate these higher.before I bought my 2.7s, I elevated my LR1s atop 2' high end tables.
anything above a foot will sound excellent. I just found 2' ideal for mine in my room.
Jose:You might try putting the speakers on a small plate to avoid scratching the floor. This custom cut plate could be made of marble, patio stones, corian, medium density fiberboard (mdf), or even wood.
I'm using Corian and do appreciate the slight elevation that it gives the speakers. The plate give the speakers a marked location, which is useful after finding the ideal location for sound imaging. Enjoy the speakers!
