I'm sure these 845 SET's have been examined here before but I wonder if anyone can guide me as to which one I should choose, they might choose. So far most votes have come for the Line Magnetic 518.
Option 1: Line Magnetic 518ia
Option 2: Dared VP 845
Option 3: Art Audio Carissa 845

I own the 518IA and have previously owned the Carissa (twice). The 518IA is a much better amplifier in my opinion. I can't comment on the Dared as I never owned it.
There is also the new 508IA. But it's based off the 805 tube and not the 845.

Line Magnetic 219ia is great sounding, built like a tank, and a bargain in sound as well as hardware. Great drive, tight, dynamic bass, very clear through the whole range.
I've posted here before as well, curious as to other products and variations. I've heard art audio years ago and was impressed, I think your choices are all good values and we'll made products.
I purchased a dared VP 845 as my first tube amplifier having plinius sa series class a ss power in my HT and must say I have had no issues with my vp845 providing plenty of lush power to a pristine pair of verity Leonore in a separate setting. This amp although made in China is close to 80 pounds and alot ot of that weight is on the backside in those transformers which posters informed me were an indication of quality.
I've had it now just shy of a year with no complaints very airy 3d soundstage with terrific tone and vocals, Joe in Naperville Illinois was terrific and steered me away from far costlier brands with a 30 day return policy. He upgraded 4 caps to the latest xo aurios caps and for free of charge bypassed the internal Alps pre-amp on the 4th input so I'd have the option of using an external pre-amp and running the dared as a power amp only, advantage being now I have a remote from one of many two channel preamps I have, Conrad Johnson met1 with remote, plinius m8 with remote or even a passive/active adcom gfp 750. Nice choices.
The brand new price was a huge 2175 shipped. Very happy owner for my first tube amplifier.
Best of luck in your journey.

I own a pair of Art Audio Adagio mono blocks which use a pair of 520 tubes each and love the sound and build quality. I also own a pair of non cataloged Art Audio mono blocks which use a single KR T100 tube (26 watts SET )which is the best I have heard in my system. I would keep an eye open for a stereo or mono block 845 amps from Art Audio as they have excellent build and sound. I also have heard the Art Audio 845 amps at several shows and very much liked what I heard. You can also contact Jack Elliano ( Electra-print ) and have him build an amp(s) for you. Good luck with you amp hunt
makes the Aries 845-G monoblocks, the IOS Stereo 845 power amplifier and the ST 845 SET amplifier. All are SET(so Class A), zero feedback models.
You can find them at the URL i have provided. They are made by hand in Vancouver, WA. The owner and designer, Kara Chaffee, is wonderful to work and the company provides outstanding service.I have heard these monoblocks several times at shows and loved them. I just don't need that much power. If Kara made 45 or 2A3 SET monos, I would be (have been) the first in line.

...Kara was no longer producing the 845 amps due to some parts being NLA. She was more focused on producing PP amps under the Kara Chaffee marque, and preamps. Any interested people should probably contact her directly at De Havilland for the current status of these products.

Another aspect to be aware of is the Power transformers primary voltage. Many Chinese amps are built with 110/220 AC input, even 3000.00 amps. I had the pleasure of repairing one of those and the failure is most likely due to the 110 AC input. Anyway, please be sure that the amp you choose is designed for 120vac. cheers, Dak
Yep, did you read the About Us section of LI site? Its about the same as anyone else's background and commitment to high grade products...who cares where they are?
Truth is a matter of perspective. Untruths travel at the speed of light.
The most important aspect of a large SET amplifier is the output transformer. That sets the bar for the performance and quality of the amplifier as a whole. If you're buying a SET amplifier with Chinese transformers, you might as well save the money and go push pull.

Buy Chinese. Bury freedom.
I do, based on actual experiences. I have quite a collection of chinese amps that have failed and were passed along to me to fix (usually a failure that takes out the transformers and then they get recycled). I did not mean to offend you, but you are talking about a significant purchase.
No worries Chip. Appreciate you're sharing your experience and perspective.
Sincerely
John

The Line Magnetic 41.2 looks pretty cool.
The main thing I would contemplate wisdom of purchasing a multi thousand dollar chinese built amp with a 1 year warranty. The Art Audio looks to be made in the UK, but what you don't know is where the transformers were wound (likely china). I would lean to an amp that has the best warranty and build quality over a hair difference in initial sonic attraction.
A WE312 mono amp ?

Can't readily find any pricing, but the bigger 212 went for somewhere between $26K and $100K. The $100K was probably the retail MSRP that, for you pretty lady, special audiophile discount...
~$25k according to Steven Rochlin of Enjoythemusic.com.
That's about what you'd have to pay for an Audion Note Jinro, no?
I believe so.
But it should be pointed out that was the price in China. The price in the US may be a very different thing when import fees, shipping (202kg or 445 lbs) and dealer mark-ups etc are applied.
And we still have to determine if we like the sound enough. Looks and cool factor aside.
Anyone want to contact Tone Imports for the price of the LM1 for a truly accurate price?
