Todd,Don't worry about Gusser. He has two consistent deficiencies. (1) He has heard not what he comments on, and (2) he is an E.E. with the routine training only, thinks "in the box" only.
Sort of a great laughable example on both counts.

Why do you find it necessary to insult the majority of electrical engineers? Do you seriously believe that someone who has undergone a degree course and has managed to qualify in such a rigorous discipline has inferior intellectual capacity and can only think within strictly confined limits? Do you resent that they can see right through you?

That wasn't a bad use for salvaged Cord transmissions...though present Cord owners may tend to disagree.

I wouldn't go there......... If one likes how products with switching power supplies perform, I'd be happy that he likes it. My response was merely to say that not everybody likes them. No harm, no foul.
I have tried switch mode power supplies in tube gear more than once for filament power. I have never been sucessfull. The problem is not interestingly enough the HF hash. This can be filtered and is mostly out of the audio band in any significant amplitude. Plus with seperate cathodes, it's shielded even more.The problem is most switchers have nasty non uniform (read can't cancel out) 60hz or 120hz spikes from the input rectifier / filter. This is impossible to eradicate on an OEM supply. Perhaps if someone designed an "audio grade" switcher you could deal with that. And it seems Phil Marchand may have done just that.
So for my tube gear I stick with EI transformer supplies. My SS audio gear uses toriod linear supplies. Sometimes a switcher will sneak in if I have CPU/DSP requirements needing several amps at +5 or +3.3 volts such as my latest project. A DSP based sub woofer processor.

Expensive but quite good.
Oh yeah! I have used those in a commercial device once. But they aren't cheap. IIRC, the company grew from an audio power amplifier group of engineers.
