I am looking for a SET amp and have auditioned numerous amps. I am close to selecting the Wyetech Topaz (I have the Wyetech Jade Preamp) but heard about Welborne Apollo II and Laurel IIXs from an acquaintance. Has anyone else heard both these amps and the Wyetech. Can you tell me what the major differences are between the Wyetech and the two Welbornes. Welborne does not send out amps for audition so I am dependent on feedback from the Asylum.
I own the Laurel IIX. It is a great amp. I have never heard of the wytech, but if all you need is 8 watts I think the Laurel is a great choice. I don't feel the need to explore other 300B amps. As far as the Apollo, well it is more than double the power and is not a 300B amp, so it does sound different. I would go this route only if you need more power. Rons product represent a great value in theis hobby not to mention the fact that you can experiment with them as well.

I have Laurel's with the Ultimate upgrade and they are wonderful.Easily beats products WAY over its price point. It's about the music,
and they deliver a jaw dropping tune. JMHO
I have the Apollo I and continue to find it amazing. I drive 90Db speakers with no problems, except "turn that music down". These amps can deliver you to music heaven.
I would not hesitate to advise someone to trade their Levinsons' for one of these.
Sorry I can't comment on the Wytech.
Good Luck
Dave
