and I came across several comments about these guys so I did a bit of research (on Amazon) and the comments seemed so over-the-top GREAT I got a cd of each (Imperial and Bee Thousand).
Major letdown.
They, deservedly, are unknown.
I'm out 23 bucks.
Sometimes, relative obscurity is well-deserved.
Follow Ups:
My Morning Jacket Z
New Pornographers twin cinema
And thought they both sucked. MO of course.
.
and enjoy that a LOT. The "Futureheads" eponymous offering? Nope. Not terrible but I'd much rather listen to a lot of other stuff.
Agree with you on Z: a few good tunes but mostly a little... whiny?
Strong disagreement, however, on New Pornographers' "Twin Cinema." I like that one a lot.
With some of these guys getting such awesome reviews from so many sources, it's almost like there's a concerted, behind-the-scenes conspiracy...
"Clap Your Hands Say Yeah" was maybe my worst album purchase, ever.... Gawd that was awful....
The Skin of My Yellow Country Teeth is a pretty cool song. Never could get myself to buy the ceedee though.

My brother was driving my father and I up to Orange county last year, and we were subjected to She Wants Revenge via his ipod.
say the pervert.......
The other day, I saw a publication proclaim Tool "10,000 Days" the best CD of 2006, yet I thought the album was downright boring.....And while I personally thought the Who "Endless Wire" was the best CD of 2006, there are probably people out there who think that album was boring....
Vive la difference.....
At least you're not afraid to go against consensus. I think the problem today is that too many people are afraid. This is why we have good music that isn't popular and popular music that isn't good.
My son, who has interesting and eclectic tastes in music (e.g., he is a major-league Zappa fan) was directed to Guided by Voices by one of his high school teachers. I think all of their albums are different. CAVEAT: I haven't really listened to much myself, but I have some respect for my son's taste, so I am applying the transitive property and thinking they might be OK.
I learned a long time ago that the ''reviews" on Amazon are even less credible than the so called critics who get paid for their word tales
