Who should win?
This year's list is the biggest to date, with 19 nominees on the ballot. Top noms include:
Pearl Jam
Yes
The Zombies
Electric Light Orchestra
Jane's Addiction
Janet Jackson
Journey.
The rest of this year's noms, in alphabetical order, are:
Bad Brains
Joan Baez
The Cars
Chic
Depeche Mode
J. Geils Band
Chaka Khan
Kraftwerk
MC5
Tupac Shakur
Steppenwolf
Joe Tex.
I would vote for Yes, ELO, Journey, Joan Baez and the Cars at a minimum.
Follow Ups:
Good picks, I wonder how many can go at one time, Steppenwolf had a large impact in the 60's & 70's with tracks still spinning on Classic Rock stations. J Geils may not be so commercial but I love the early boogie years.
OK, Yes, what a foul they aren't already there. I was listening to some Camel and Sieges Even the other night and thinking how Yes must have been an influence and how many prog bands have been influence by them.
Pearl Jam and the Grunge thing was a big trend but when Yes or the Zombies haven't been in yet, Pearl jam can wait.
Adding Country or Rap/Pop to a Hall called "Rock & Roll" is a joke.
Agreed-
The Zombies & YES, should have 1st consideration.
Big Pearl Jam fan as well, however, there are more deserving/overlooked
artists that should induct prior to any "grunge" band.
Thanks! for sharing-
it is good to read that YES and Journey made the cut this year.
..but I couldn't care less who gets in or is even nominated. I like who I like, respect who I respect (even if I don't particularly care for the music), and sometimes like the music but hate the artist because of some stated view or action. Not trying to attack you or your post, and I guess I am a bit curious...but it won't sway my own views of those mentioned either way.
...it is a curiosity but as a fan of the genre it still interests me a little.
What I find most disconcerting is the addition of all the hip-hop, dance and rap music artists being nominated to the Rock and Roll Hall.
So let's kick out anybody who is NOT Rock & Roll. Let's start with Bill Monroe, Chet Atkins and Hank Williams.
...they are certainly more rock and roll than Janet Jackson and Tupak.
Janet Jackson and Tupak have more musically in common with Chuck Berry then, Haaaayyyyy Good Lookin, Whaaaatcha Got Cookin . . .
than with rap or slick r&b.
He would tell you the same thing but it should be obvious. But if you can't hear it ...
Not liking an artist because of their views or actions, is why I try to avoid any type of award shows.I just found out that some people believe Bob Dylan sold his soul to the devil, which I find amusing but do not care or want to know.
