If you go back 30 years, we here in the Bay Area knew Dave Mustaine as the drugged-out whiner, who got kicked out of Metallica. He, of course, formed his own band, Megadeth. And at the end of 1986, it was really "Peace Sells," which caused Megadeth to go mainstream. After seeing the music video and listening to the lyrics, many of my classmates remarked, "Why didn't I think of that?"
"Peace Sells" took punk, and if you listened carefully to the guitar riffs, and brought it to, for reference purposes, Kill 'Em All [Metallica] levels. In those days, most of my female classmates had long hair. And because "Peace Sells" was a song to which you could just stand in place, and bob your head, a few of those girls said that they were "ready-made" for headbanging.
Inspired by "Peace Sells," my future-girlfriend, KJ (above), walked a few blocks from her home to Broadway Rock (which was just a couple doors down from San Francisco's The Stone), and bought a Megadeth "Killing Is My Business...And Business Is Good" t-shirt. Interestingly, if you leave San Francisco proper, and look for moms who are KJ's age, you'll find quite a few in thrash metal t-shirts.
More and more, audiophiles are, 30 years late, getting into Megadeth. "Peace Sells" is a good starting point.

Photographed them several years ago in Indianapolis. I've also seen them before that in Cincinnati and Columbus, Ohio (part of the Anthrax and Slayer tour.) They really are a tight live unit.
I was in line in Indianapolis awaiting my photo pass when a poor schmuck ahead of me in line was there to pick up his ticket for his seat in the pit, only to be informed that the band decided to eliminate those seats for which he paid. They offered to put him in the balcony, and to give him free merchandise. He was not happy.
Yes great album, far superior to Metallica particularly the musicianship. Blows away kill em all.
Peace Sells was Megadeth's second release. Kill 'Em All was Metallica's first release. Does Killing is My Business (Megadeth's first release) blow away Kill 'Em All? I don't think so. As good as Peace Sells is, does it blow away Ride the Lightning (Metallica's second release)? I don't think so.
IMO 'Rust In Piece' is the best release from either one. While Kill 'Em All, Ride The Lightning, and Master Of Puppets are in regular rotation at my house they all fall a bit short in comparison to Rust In Piece. Overall I'd say Megadeth have a much better discography than Metallica.
The problem (for me) with Megadeth after Rust in Piece, is, with a few exceptions on Countdown to Extinction, that they (well, Mustaine) clearly were trying to outsell Metallica, and they released some really, really, tepid material over multiple releases that was clearly written to be on the radio. While Metallica deviated from their original path, I can't say they followed the same path.
I really like a few songs from the post Rust In Piece albums; specifically 'Kill The King', 'A Tout le Monde', and 'Trust'. But yeah, otherwise there's a lot of forgettable stuff.
Maybe related...Mustaine has really lost his mind since getting clean IMO. Some of the things his stated on current events leave me with mixed feelings about supporting him with my purchases.
In order to leave Capitol Records, Megadeth still owed one album. They fulfilled that, by coming up with a Greatest Hits package, Capitol Punishment , which included a new song, "Kill The King."
A good DJ, radio station, or audio store will play under-the-radar findings, such as Megadeth's "Kill The King."
I liked those Capitol albums.
I have always viewed Megadeth and Metallica as yin / yang.
Healthy competition as well.
Yep, bought it on release date. Still a killer album.
Bought it that year and it holds up well.
