The awesome music from the first third of 1986 is what inspired me to take an interest in home audio. Since that was 30 years ago (the music keeps the memories fresh, so 1986 only seems like yesterday), it is time we started writing about it.For no particular reason, first up is Ozzy Osbourne's "Shot In The Dark."
It's like this. In high school, I could be buddy-buddy with fellow guys. But if I really wanted friendship and someone to talk to, it was the girls.
You also have to understand that, after the Scorpions' "Rock You Like A Hurricane," heavy metal was not all that popular. So with this as a backdrop, you have to understand that my female friends/classmates (at my school, girls typically liked dance or modern rock, not rap or heavy metal) talking about Osbourne's "Shot In The Dark" was indeed a big deal. They certainly liked it more than, for example, the songs on Dokken's Under Lock And Key, or Stryper's Soldiers Under Command.
Back then, and even now, my local Bay Area radio stations never played "Shot In The Dark." That's why it was always up to Lummy and his classmates, to play it. Part of the reason why this song didn't get airplay was that Osbourne and former bassist Phil Soussan were in litigation with each other, regarding songwriting credits and royalties. Sound familiar? Osbourne would be in constant legal battles with his other bassist, Bob Daisley, for the same matters.
Just as my classmates (both female and male) have liked "Shot In The Dark," it is also palatable to audiophiles. For decades, I have played this song at audiophile gatherings, and not only do they not run to the exits (as they do with the stuff stores and staff deafen us with), they nod that they like or are okay with "Shot In The Dark."
As an audiophile, I have been known to use "Shot In The Dark," to test gear. If an audio product messes up the song's pace and direction, it (the product) is a non-starter.

Lots of (80's) color in the production/engineering, wild guitar playing, and almost every song is very good ('You'll never know why' being the exception in my book). I love Fool Like You, Never, Secret Loser, Killer of Giants and Thank God For The Bomb in particular. Shot In The Dark is superb live. Saw three shows on that 1986 tour.
Thanks! for sharing- guys!
You know I love my vinyl, and the 12" singles of Shot In The Dark and The Ultimate Sin are no exceptions! Easily my favorite Ozzy album. I may have been late to the game, but at least I arrived!

Another great album in the Ozzy solo arsenal!
Thanks! for sharing- Lummy.
...in San Jose 2/9.
Wasn't expecting a great show, would've been happy if Ozzy got through it as long as the band was solid. Turned out to be one of the best shows I've ever seen. Ozzy was better than ok and Tony and Geezer were incredibly sharp and powerful. Drummer had a tough job replacing Bill Ward but he was a tornado of energy and didn't take a back seat to anyone. I don't think a 70 year old Ward could've performed anything close to that. I've seen Ozzy a couple of times and Sabbath w Dio but never together. If you're a fan of the first four albums don't miss this tour. I can also heartily recommend the latest release: 13. They do play one song from this and it will go down as an all-time great Sabbarth song.
13- is a killer album!
whom is the drummer on this current tour?
He's played with Ozzy for the past 5 years and worked with Rob Zombie and Alice Cooper.
very NICE!
