I was thinking about last Friday night when I saw David Freiberg and Paul Kantner of Jefferson Airplane/Starship perform.
While David Freiberg still had vocal range and could actually move about the stage - Paul Kantner not so much. I Googled them this morning and holy Geritol - these guys were 76 and 74. I guess dropping acid and living into the golden years may be over rated...........

Follow Ups:
Chuck Berry played over 200 monthly shows at the Blueberry Hill in St. Louis - stopped last year, at the age of 87. He was a bit younger when I saw him at the Fillmore East - maybe 1970.
Not technically a rocker, but he could rock it up at times.
This year, a few weeks after his actual 70th birthday. Chris Stainton played keyboards, and he's 71.
I saw (what's left of) The Who in concert this past May. Roger's 71, while Townshend's 70.

His concert was great but he can't move around for shite

"E Burres Stigano?"
Saw David Bromberg a couple times earlier this year. He's almost 70.
Still totally rockin' with his Rant Band. Of course, the last time I saw him he was a mere youngster at age 74. Will be touring with the J Geils Band later in the summer. (... and you gotta stay young man, you can never be old - from "All the Way From Memphis").
Saw him dropping in on his touring band which was the house band at a Palo Alto dive bar. He almost always appeared around midnight and would go up and play a set. No publicity, crowds varied from 5 of us to maybe sometimes as many as 30 folks. He was as lucid as can be and had that driving guitar thing down cold...how old was he? I'd say about 600 years, he was a very old soul....here is a pic from that bar...
John Lee hooker rare live (1960-1984)
I saw JLH last concert at House of Blues. And Mitch Mitchell last concert apperance at the Greek. Both died soon afterwards.
Stopped going to old-timer concerts, for fear of being the Angel of Death. 8^(
Did see Buddy Guy last year. And he is still alive!
8^)
I saw him a year or two before he hit the road. A Hawaiian friend took me to the show. It was on him. I was surprised when we got to the club and the doorman let us in free. Turned out the keyboard player was a old friend from the area where he grew up. Big tall kid with a fro. I didn't learn anything from him about Hooker because he and my friend spoke pigeon to each other.
...I saw John Mayall put on a great show with a terrific band last summer - he's was 80.And still touring - appeared in a small club here last week.
And saw Jerry Lee Lewis perform at Jazzfest in New Orleans last May at 79.

Back in 1985 or so, the band played for 30-45 minutes and he had to be helped up stage. At that point I figured he'd do 2 or 3 songs and get hleped dpwn the stage, we got ripped off. He was about 70 and very large.
But no, he started swinging his arms, and clapping his hands and telling everyone to do the same. In a minute he was ageless and showed the power of the blues to everyone in the club. He played for nearly an hour. We had just witnessed a legend doing his magic. He got helped down the stage....Died in 1992
He headlined a Halloween weekend show and it was fantastic. He's 67 and by his own accounts it's a minor miracle that he survived the 70s.
...back in the late 1980s I saw he and his wife relaxing by the pool at the Wailea Marriott in Maui - he owned a condo across the way and had pool privileges.
I saw Alice Cooper in Las Vegas last Thanksgiving at the Palms Casino. Had to be one of the loudest shows I have ever been to, and that includes the Deads wall of sound shows. He could still put on a good show, though!
