Pulled Wrecking Ball out last night for a full listen. Spooky good. Made my ProAc's reach down deep. Sounds so fresh for a very old song/album.
Follow Ups:
Both are great but for whatever reason (and it's not sound quality!), "Red Dirt Girl" is the one I prefer. Many of the songs on it (still) bring a tear to my eye when I hear 'em.
In a good way ;-)
all the best,
mrh
Live version of Red Dirt Girl on Real Live Roadrunning is beyond good - it's one of my top 5 performances of all time.
Both are excellent albums!
Another vote for the 2oth Anniversary ed.
Hard to believe it's been 20 years...
Need to get the 20th Anniversary issue with bonus tracks, but can't see as
how they might add to the perfection of the original.
With Stumble into Grace those are two of the most brilliant gems of a sparkling career.
True highlights.
"Once this was all Black Plasma and Imagination" -Michael McClure
it is ethereal and it affects me deeply. She has an uncanny ability to choose the songs she covers and then to occupy them and make them something new and hers alone.
If you are ever lucky enough to stand close enough to hear her voice coming direct before it goes thru the PA system your socks will blow off.
Her 2 albums with Mark Knopfler should be on that list too....
Do you mean the studio and then live versions of All The Road Running or is there another I missed? Agree the pairing produced great music. Almost feels like they were an item - were they? Funny, after listening to Wrecking Ball I put on Brothers in Arms (SACD) - never thought about the natural pairing at the time.
as well as the studio one. Some very sweet music in them...
This may be heresy to many here but the BluRay of the live show is one of my fav's. Great video and audio production. Their jam on Speedway to Nazareth is phenomenal, imho.PS Emmylou looks absolutely stunning in the soft focus on the song.
