Along with Jimmy James, man they just shredded the place with a guitar send up that was hard to believe. Doing Tom Joad, man, he can play like you cannot believe.

(and believe me, I DO respect his songwriting and performing), but Tom Morello is so seriously underrated as a true guitar visionary!
I put him up there with "The Erics" (both Clapton and Johnson), Jimi Hendrix and Robert Fripp- and all those guys who came up with their own, individual voices on the guitar.
YMMV

Fine performance.
I may not have this 100% correct but I think I first saw Tom join Bruce on Ghost of Tom Joad on the Hall of Fame 25th Anniversary DVD. I was floored, like you, at his guitar prowess. It's one of those performances that defies expectations.
I saw that performance- Fantastic as well. Me thinks Springsteen is a fan. And probably more than just a musician but as an activist for the little guy.
Springsteen has outgrown his own lyrics in many ways. Too successful, too rich etc... His lyrics and music is better served by the young. And it's good to see Morello and James carry the torch with angst and intensity. Angry young folks kicking ass and giving the finger to the MAN. Rock at it's best.
Now..., if they could just get a gig in Beijing or Moscow instead of millionaire dandy's in the music biz.
Fantastic song and interpretation. Who said Rock and Roll is dead (me sometimes). Love both of these guys.
