Thanks so much!
I loves me some surf rock, and I'd have to say that Jim Thomas of The Mermen is the king of that genre. Check 'em out on the Live Music Archive...

This is a soundboard recording....

I love Frisell, but for my money the best cover of "Pipeline" is by the California Guitar Trio, from "Yamanashi Blues."
Happy listening,
Jim

...Frissel's latest,"Guitar in the Space Age", where he covers Surfer Girl and a some other 1960s instrumentals.
My favorite, besides Pipeline, is Baja, a surf tune by the Astronauts from Boulder, CO.
Unfortunately, his versions are interesting but mostly pale in comparison to the originals.
will be here Thursday...no hi-rez download available...
but, the recording seems to have a bit too much slap-back echo. Or looping EFX. With the lead pushed to the front. I'm kinda used to the old-fashioned clean, subtle Fender reverb plus tremolo-vibrato tone --- like the original studio recording.I believe they used two blonde era Showman with a stand-alone Fender Reverb unit for lead work. The lead being layered over the rhythm. Placed "behind" the rhythm guitar.
Just me... of course.-----

It's ok, that's all. Has no drive. The original kicks its butt.

A great one! BF has been on a positive roll for some time now.
I've really been enjoying BF's "All We Are Saying" (the music of John Lennon) cd lately.
Watched this a few weeks ago. Sounds good and is a real joy.
