I am interested in streaming TIDAL and I would like to buy a unit that works by itself, i.e. without the need for a PC or phone to control it. I have a wireless router in the same room the unit would go. Does such a unit exist? TIA
Follow Ups:
I don't know of any that don't need a phone or a tablet to control.
I cancelled Tidal myself, I have Deezer Elite on the Sonos so I don't need it right now. That is also a streaming FLAC service, just limited to Sonos products right now.
I think you're looking for a CD player type unit that can handle tidal, that would be ideal IMHO for my own use as well. I'm sure someone will be working on such a thing,
There are a number of streaming boxes cheap for TV. Check Roku's website and see if it will work.
Oppo Blu-ray disc players can stream Tidal. They also have their own remote control so you don't have to use a PC or phone. However, you will have to connect it to a TV to have a display. If you don't want to connect it to a TV then you will need a tablet or phone for a display.
You can use mysqueezebox.com for your server with the tidal plugin, free of a computer. I do this frequently.
+1 on the Squeezebox. I suggest a Touch.
I would seriously consider a tablet as a remote. Once you try one, you won't go back.
Anyways, for the Touch see below.
