In its high end configuration, it's about 300% faster than the fastest MacProMini with fastest i7 core processor. The base configuration at $699 seems like a pretty good deal, especially considering it's actually user-upgradable (unlike any recent Mac).
Anyway, it's not *my* story. Just thought the content might apply to some here looking for a good, compact music server.

It looks like a nice little unit and great value, though the Darth Vader inspired aesthetic seems a bit dated.
Can you substantiate the "300% faster" claim?
. . . in theory, practice and theory are the same; in practice, they are different . . .
You could have probably found this yourself. http://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare.php?cmp%5B%5D=2773&cmp%5B%5D=1857

First he positions the HP Z2 as a Mac Mini killer based on an article with a sensationalist title. That's fine, it grabs the attention of readers who are not very well informed. In reality the HP Z2 and Mac Mini serve completely different markets. The HP Z2 is not well suited for home theater / music server duty given it's huge noisy fans. And it's much larger than the Mac Mini at twice the volume. The base HP Z2 starts at $699 while the base Mac Mini is $499 and is just fine for music server duty.Second, he then goes on to say: "In its [HP Z2] high end configuration [much more than $699], it's about 300% faster than the fastest Mac Pro. "
So now he switches positioning the HP Z2 against the Mac Mini to the Mac Pro and says it's 300% faster. 300% faster than the Mac Pro? Not a chance. He's trying to spread misinformation, or he's simply confused.
He then posts performance charts for the HP Z2 vs the Mac Mini trying to convince readers that the HP Z2 is 300% faster than the Mac Pro .
The chart linked below depicts his CPU selection for the HP Z1 against a midrange CPU for the Mac Pro. It's the bottom line number in RED that counts. Mac Pro on the right. Who's faster?

But subjectively, it's much faster than a Mac Pro. Remember, we don't believe in measurements here.

I responded to your statement "... it's about 300% faster than the fastest Mac Pro.".
Clearly not so.

The Engadget story was about the HP Z2Mini Vs Mac Mini, as was this thread.

Ignore Abe. He's in his happy place.

Mac's have never been a value proposition at their price. Others have done significantly better for 1/3 the cost, especially if you build it yourself.
That said, you buy a Mac for other reasons. Mac owners would need to you why.

So let me get this straight: you are saying you can build a computer equal to this one for 1/3 of the cost, which would be $167?

Or this one, including 21 inch monitor for 1/3 of the cost, which would be $366?

All due respect, but I'm skeptical.
