If so why so, if not why not, and further...
What does it do?

Ivan, I stopped there. I went to the gas station and got a $10 Apple gift card and bought the remote for it too on the iPad, called A+ remote, I upsample everything from Tidal to DSD 128, going no further.Runs ok on the last model MacBook Pro before the new ones were just released. USB out to Auralic DAC.
The remote control for it is great,

AV+ in iTunes compatibility mode has been my primary player setup for a number of years. I like it a lot! First, it sounds better than iTunes (bypasses CoreAudio) and it does automatic sample rate switching that iTunes will not do.Some features include 64-bit internal processing, Direct Mode, Integer Mode, iZotope algorithms, native DSD streaming, SysOptimizer, bit perfect, memory play, Audio Unit plugins support, etc.
Go to the AV+ webpage linked below and scroll down toward the bottom for more details.
I only recently switched to Roon but AV+ was my favorite for a long time.

I use Audirvana because I've invested a lot of time in getting the database functions of iTunes to look the way I want them to. For example, I've taken CD's which are compilations of more than one LP and replaced the CD booklet cover (which appears with the tracks with the CD) with the original LP covers, which IMHO, are often more beautiful. This involves dividing the tracks back into their component LP tracks, deleting the CD booklet cover(s), and adding back the respective LP covers, e.g.:
(CD Reissue)
(The original Capitol LP covers)
In addition, when Audirvana is working in "iTunes compatibility mode", Audirvana "intercepts" the normal iTunes audio playback and uses its own playback engine instead, which, unlike iTunes, automatically adjusts for changes in bit depth and sample rate. (In iTunes, this has to be changed manually.)
The Audirvana folks are also very good about updating their own SW to be compatible whenever Apple updates its system software.
Finally, Audirvana just sounds better than iTunes. ;-)
I also use HQ Player - mainly for multi-channel files, although Audirvana has multi-channel capability too.
