My Tidal subscription ended today. I stared at my Auralic Aries, thinking I should sell it as it was now worthless without Tidal. Well I'll have to keep paying the $20 a month because that service is really a blessing, I wish it a good future, I do think it is essential ...

TIDAL is very very good.
BUT you need really good internet. Currently my internet speed tests always pegs the test needles.
I tried TIDAL when I had mediocre internet and it just was a constant hassle.
I had to give TIDAL up until I got 200mbs download...

There must be something else going on. I run Tidal with no problems on my "slowski" connection which is 10 mbps on a good day.
But are you running HI FI mode?

I have 50 mbs and run tidal in Hifi mode with no interruptions. Running over WiFi from a Macbook Pro. When I was using a microsoft PC I had nothing but problems

I also streamed HD Videos with no problems, with 25 Mbps which has a lot more data than audio. You have something wrong with your network.

Yes. I also run ClassicsOnline which contains 24/48, 24/96, and 24/192 streaming. Usually don't have problem with anything except 24/192. Those can be iffy sometimes, but I don't know if it's me or them.

I average about 100 Mbps download and have no issues streaming Tidal 1411 Kbps music.
I really like the quality but music discovery just doesn't seem as easy as it was with Spotify or Apple Music. The radio function just keeps repeating the same songs over and over. The only way I discover new music with Tidal is through the playlists.
Classicsonline have a section showing all the new and recent releases and basically every weekend they are a few dozens new titles, this is what I use and find it difficult to keep up with it. It is just marvellous
About 50% of them are in Hirez up to 24/192
I also found the sound quality of lots of new releases to be superb
Same with me and "classics on line" I do not think that I played my JRiver music once in the last 6 months. Every week they are new releases and I am the curious type and have to listen to them.

My advice to all is to give it a try with a GOOD DAC and either a dedicated computer or streamer and I am betting the difference between streaming and streaming ripped CDs played from the same system will be quite small. Yes, I still discover many mew pieces of music that I purchase, 4-6 CDs per month on average this year, so there is that.
Including the one above that is a rather recent release of an old favorite that steaming re-introduced me to.
I also have those two services and I agree with both of you. At the old age of 75 I am once again discovering new music. It is really a lot of fun and I hardly every listen to vinyl or cds anymore.

I can live without Tidal. However, at this point, when my one month free trial expires (just signed up Friday), I'll likely continue my subscription.First impressions:
- Foremost, the sole reason I'm using Tidal over Spotify is because Tidal streams in 1411 Kbps and Spotify in 320 Kbps. However, I am still comparing the two side by side for differences in quality.- So far, Spotify seems to have a larger catalog of the music I like. However, I am impressed with Tidal's selection too, and this is contradictory to some of the opinions I've read on the Internet.
- To me, and while very similar to Tidal, Spotify has a sleeker, more attractive, and simpler interface. It's just more pleasant, and easier to use.
- When I open each, Tidal clutters my screen with more adds and music suggestions that I have absolutely no interest in (see pic below - Spotify left, Tidal right). Not the best photo, but it gives you an idea of what I'm talking about.- Seems to me that Tidal is focused on attracting a much younger demographic. As such, I find Tidal to be a bit obnoxious and irritating (I'm 44 years old).
- Spotify natively and seamlessly allows me to login on my Windows 10 PC and iPad concurrently. Tidal allows this too, however, with Spotify I can choose the music output from my iPad. Simply put, with Spotify (from my iPad) I can choose my PC as my output instantly making my iPad the perfect remote control for my PC-based sound system. If you are controlling Tidal from your iPad, you are forced to listen to Tidal from your iPad, that is unless a third party program is installed. I am currently using VNC, which allows me to control my desktop from my iPad. It works, but is a bit clumsy and adds a layer of extra effort between me and the music. 18 March 2015, "ability to control TIDAL from your iOS or Android smartphone or tablet to control TIDAL, is a function we are very keen to integrate into TIDAL, in fact it is high on our Product Team's agenda. The team has been working very hard to deliver this functionality." Given that this statement (according to a Facebook post, and not validated by me) was apparently released a year and a half ago, it doesn't sound as though it's the priority they claim.- Another plus for Spotify is their half price, premium service offering for students. While enrolled in school, I'm receiving the $10 Spotify premium service for $5.
Does Spotify treat their customers better than Tidal? I'm not sure as I'm brand new to both. However, thus far my first impressions have me leaning towards yes. Bottom line, if Spotify were to offer 1411 Kbps streaming today, I would drop Tidal like a 100-pound sack of potatoes.

You should know that Tidal pays the musicians more than Spotify. I cancelled spotify premium 6 months ago but they are still pulling money out of my bank account. I will have to file a claim with my bank to get them to stop. Very unethical

Sorry to hear that. Apparently this an issue with a lot very upset people, and definitely an ugly blemish on Spotify's reputation. You may have already tried these, but the URL below has some suggestions for canceling. Hoping you get this resolved soonest.
