Well worth the $70 or so and I also recommend the iPad remote app for it for $10.
I think this parallels Daphile Linux in functionality. Sounds more pleasant, softer too. I've been up sampling Tidal to DSD 128, appreciate the help from Abe Collins and others here. This is my first Mac in about a decade ...
Follow Ups:
I appreciate how Audirvana regularly updates their software to work properly with the latest Macintosh system software upgrades in a very timely fashion. The recent upgrade to macOS Sierra seemed to go very smoothly.
When Audirvana works in its "iTunes compatibility mode", iTunes is still used for the database functions, while Audirvana takes over the playback functions. It works very well if you have a lot already invested in iTunes (as I do - over 2100 albums ripped to the hard drive), and I do like certain things about iTunes - for instance how it keeps track of how many times you've played each track, or when the last time you played a given track was - and all this is still compatible with Audirvana playback.
...and it sounds great!
Worked OK for me with a MacBook Pro + WaveLength Proton, but my system is very simple. I only had/have files burned from Red Book CDs through Itunes.
I don't have a complicated setup either, I have a tidal subscription. my dac can do DSD over USB, so I set it to transcode to DSD. pretty cool software.
I don't have anything ripped, I used to but I am too lazy to rip 2,000+ cds in my old age.
