Bottom line, I messed up my iTunes library of 10,000 plus songs. I now have duplicates of everything. After about 30 minutes of manually deleting, I made it through the "A's" on my artist index. At this rate.......
Has anyone tried "Tune Sweeper". It claims to be able to detect best version of the song, compares times and Album Listings, etc. and will have everything set to delete at the touch of a button; while allowing you to adjust for individual selections.
I have in my library CD RIPS, a few iTunes downloads with no DRM's, some Hi-Rez files, and album rips.
I would love to find a shortcut.
Thanks,
John

Sorry to hear about your duplicates problem. I've never encountered this issue on such a large scale. I linked to a YouTube video below that might be helpful. It's for iTunes 11 but probably similar in other versions. Not sure if you're already doing it this way but take a look.
BTW, having a good backup of your entire system including the music library is a good way to revert back to a previous state before the human error occurred. I use Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper to make complete backups of my setup.
Good luck.
Thanks Abe for the YouTube link. When I looked at applying it to my situation, I opted to look for a software solution. I found a product called Dupin by an authorized Apple developer and it removed all of the duplicates cleanly. It allows you to select the filter criteria and you can preview what you are going to remove in advance and also send the files to the trash first instead of permanently deleting them.
My problem initially stemmed from having multiple .itl and other organizer files created overtime...................
Things are running well now, however all of my playlists were gone before I started the Dupin process. However, I find constructing playlists relaxing and I uncover the hidden gems in my library. I also let Genius create a few.
