He talks about comparison of sound with the full sized Direct Stream DAC and yet I am not sure he has ever heard it and certainly not in his system?
I can say that I have heard the full sized Direct Stream DAC comparing the USB, S/PDIF and Ethernet Bridge II inputs and The Bridge sounded best. OK, highly modified Mac Mini with many differing player softwares and USB > S/PDIF solutions as well, but still, the Bridge sounded better than any of the other inputs.
And it's 'just' UPnP like on my $399 Marantz NA-7004.

How did you like / dislike the DirectStream DAC?

It was quite good in comparison with SCHIIT's best DAC and my Audio-GD Master 7.
Any of those three I would be happy with.
$6K?
Well, it's audio so who can judge?
Converting everything to DSD in firmware makes a lot of sense as it is far simpler to convert DSD to Audio that PCM, at least the way they do it but that's JMNSHO.
If the Direct Stream Junior is 90% of it's big brother then maybe it's the better choice for the money.
Me? No interest in DSD and am quite happy with my multi-chip, multi-bit ladder DAC.
